A low moan from Jasmine hit him and he smirked. Then turned his back on Michel, trusting her to keep him safe. And the move showed off the rake marks she’d put on him as he went to draw on a pair of workout pants.

“Did you want to tell your dad why you had to stay and watch me dress? Or can you step out of the room so my woman can get dressed? I don’t give a fuck if you look at my cock but I’ll fucking be dead before I allow your eyes to rest upon her nude body. That’s mine.” Lance didn’t even attempt to hide the blatant possessiveness in his tone.

Jasmine sank against the buttery-soft leather seat in the back of the SUV they rode in. Personally, she wasn’t a fan of not having her own way out other than running, but it was too late for her to insist on getting there herself. Hell, she’d not had a car in years. Easier to be tracked down, and so much easier to just boost what she needed when and if she required it.

Lance sat beside her, his face the epitome of calm, but she knew better. She could read him like a book. Had been able to since the first day they had met. Jasmine hid a chuckle as she recalled his expression when she’d dragged her far-too-long nails up his chest and propositioned him.

Despite the line she’d crossed when she’d been betrayed, there were some things that had been imbedded deep in her soul. And leaving this man to face a certain death if she ratted him out wasn’t something she could do. So for the moment she was officially the unofficial girlfriend of Lance, who worked for the Jankovic crime family.

She couldn’t stop playing in her head how he’d protected her body from Michel’s view. Like she actually meant something to him.

If only that were true, but I know my lot in life and it’s not the happily ever after. Even if I do want it.

He reached across the space between them and picked up her hand, lacing their fingers.

“You okay, baby?”

Aware of the eagle-eyed stare of Michel, who continually turned around to watch them as if he couldn’t help himself, she smiled and squeezed his hand.

“Of course. I’m with you. I mean, breakfast would have been nice, but I’m guessing you’re going to feed me after.”

Those kissable lips turned up and she realized, in that moment, that this could be a bad thing. There could be actual feelings forming for this man.

“I plan on feeding you many more times today, baby. My word on that.”

She dragged her fingernail along his skin and watched his eyes darken.

Yeah, this had the potential to fucking blow up in her face.

Michel gave a snort of disdain before turning up the music. She grinned at Lance but didn’t try to move closer to him and whisper. No doubt that’s what Michel wanted them to do.

The ride took about thirty minutes with the traffic and she shifted on the seat when the luxury SUV slowed to turn into the Jankovic home. Home? Mansion was more apt a description. At least fifteen thousand square feet, and that was an assumption from seeing what she could from the long driveway that widened out to a circle at the front entry that had a damn stone fountain there. The large, vibrant green lawn beside them on either side was perfectly manicured with flowers, shrubs and hedges.

She waited after they parked for Lance to reach toward her, offering his hand. Taking it, she slid over the leather and climbed out to stand beside him, resting her palm against his chest as he settled his arm around her, his lips to her head.

“We’ll be fine.”

Not bothering to answer him, she walked beside him, quiet, as they approached the front entrance. The driver opened the door and she let go of Lance’s hand so he could enter before her. Michel stepped up beside her and she bit back her growl of impatience and disgust.

“First time a woman of your color has walked through the front door. Usually they come in through the back to work.”

Turning toward him, she pushed him into the wall by the entrance, finger on the gun that pressed into his dick.

“Yet you still hunger for the pussy you’ll never get. Tell me, out of all those innocent girls you rape, how many look like me? We both know you want it but we’re smarter and refuse to go with you, so you’re relegated to rape, pedophilia, and porn to get your fix. I know this is your dad’s house, but you fucking disrespect me again and I won’t care what happens to me when I kill you.” She pushed harder on the gun in his crotch. “Do we understand each other? I’m not your bitch and I won’t be spoken to like shit on your shoe. Believe that.”
