What was she thinking?

“Cyber, Cyber?” Demi calls out on the phone. I forgot that she was still there.

“Yes, kiddo.”

“Please tell me you’re going to get her back safe. Asher wouldn’t forgive me if you didn’t.”

“Asher?”

“Yep.”

“Andrea wouldn’t forgive me either. I’ll do everything I can.” Fucking hell. “Stay calm, Demi, and don’t tell Asher anything for now. Tell him she had to check on Andrea.”

“Okay.”

“Good. I need to go. I will call you when I can.”

“Thank you, Cyber.”

“Don’t thank me yet.”

“You’ll get her back.” My heart’s racing as I end the call and tuck the phone in my jacket pocket. Speeding through the town, I make it to my apartment building and into the parking lot without spotting the vehicle Indy sent me a picture of. The blue Nissan isn’t in sight, but that doesn’t mean he’s not nearby.

I called Indy to get a location status update. “He stayed on the outskirts, but now he’s moving down the road outside of town.”

“What the fuck is he waiting for?” I ask, knowing there’s more at play.

“Probably a call to you or something. He’s got to have a reason we don’t know about just yet.”

“Yeah, well, he’s got Bee, but she’s not going to cave that easily.” No. She loves her cousin, but she might have gotten him out of the hospital. It wouldn’t have taken much effort to learn who we were and where we were located. Once he knew that, all he needed was his hostage. Now, it’s a waiting game.

I flew up the flight of stairs to my apartment and into my place before I realized it was unlocked. “Andrea,” I called out, waiting for her to answer, but she doesn’t. Searching each room, I don’t find a sign of her anywhere.

Shit. She’s not here. I’m down the stairs and looking for the prospect who was supposed to be watching her. “Where the fuck were you? Andrea’s missing.”

“I’ve been here the whole time. She couldn’t have gotten past me, and Jack had to go take a piss right now.” I think about the fire escape and take a look around back. Fucking hell. It’s been lowered, but not all the way. She made that leap into the trash bin. I’m going to kick her ass after I get her to safety.

I rush around to the front of the building. Boomer and Blade are outside, hulking toward me. “She’s not here.”

I hop into Blade’s ride while Boomer follows behind us. I call Indy as we speed off to find her. “Look for Andrea. She’s a petite brunette. She doesn’t have a car, so she can’t be that far on foot from my apartment.” There could be a dozen women that would fit that description, but he already knows what she looks like.

“Give me a sec… wait. She’s about a quarter mile from the movie theater on foot.” We move quickly, flying fast. I don’t know what his game plan is, but he won’t get my woman.

We’re near the theater when we spot both the blue Nissan and my woman. We have time to reach her first, but I’m worried about her cousin. I pull out the binoculars and see she’s in the backseat tied up.

“Gun, Blade.” He passes me one of his weapons because I’m going to shoot this fucker before he has a chance to get my woman.

“Pit move?” he asks.

“Bee’s in the backseat, tied up,” I explain, letting him know what the risk is.

“Does he have both hands on the wheel?”

“Looks like it.”

“Good.”

Blade tells Boomer over the phone, “Pit, backseat.”

“Okay.” In seconds, everything happens. The stalker’s hand points out the window with a gun aimed right at my woman. There’s no hesitation in our moves. Boomer twists his wheels and sends the stalker’s car spinning and hitting the wall while limiting the impact on the backseat as I take my shot at the asshole in the driver’s seat. He slumps forward, getting off a shot that goes wide. I pop out of Blade’s vehicle as it comes to a stop and rush toward Andrea, who is running toward her cousin.

“Stay back,” Boomer barks out toward Andrea, who freezes on the spot. We don’t know if that asshole is dead because my shot may not have been clean.

I’m at her side, pulling Andrea into my arms and holding her tight. “What the fuck is wrong with you?”

“Wrong with me? He had my cousin.”

“How did you know?” I ask. She couldn’t have found out when we did.

“I had my phone.”

“Fucking shit.” I close my eyes and want to scream.

“The bastard’s still kicking,” Boomer says, rubbing his neck.

“Damn it. Are you okay?” I ask him.

“Nothing that I can’t have Crystal rub out.” We’ve got a crowd growing around the area, which is to be expected given that we’re in the middle of the damn mall and drew attention to ourselves. We can’t just put a bullet in this asshole and make him disappear. “I’m not worried about me; we need to get Bee to the hospital.”
