“That wasn’t very smart, huh? I am sorry, though.”

“I know you are. But you’re still getting punished. You did and said some naughty things while you were recovering and you need to be punished so that you know Daddy will always enforce his rules. But I want you to know that Daddy loves you. No matter what. Understand?”

“Yes, Daddy. I love you, too.”

“Good girl. Lay yourself over my lap.” He positioned her so her torso and legs were supported on either side of his lap. Then he placed his hand on the small of her back.

“What is your safeword?”

“Red, Daddy.”

“You will say it if you need to. Fifteen with my hand first.”

He smacked his hand down on her ass. She let out a shocked squeal. “Daddy! That hurts!”

Poor baby was in for a rude awakening.

She was dying.

She was in agony.

It hurt so much that she couldn’t believe it was just his hand punishing her.

“Ow! Owie! Ouch! Daddy, no!”

“I’m sorry, baby girl. But unless you say your safeword I’m going to keep going.”

She started kicking her legs. She didn’t know why, it just seemed like it might help. By the time he finished, she was nearly in tears and her bottom was throbbing and hot.

Oh, thank goodness that was over.

“Good girl,” he praised.

Yeah. She was such a good girl.

“Now, it’s five with the paddle.”

The paddle smacked down on her ass, and she let out a small scream. No! Nope!

“Jebiesz Jeze!” she cried.

“Okay. What does that mean?” he asked.

“Um.”

“Shortcake,” he said warningly. “What does it mean?”

“It means that you fuck hedgehogs.”

“Jesus,” he said in a choked voice. “Really?”

“Um. Yeah. Sorry.”

“You’ve never told me why you swear in different languages.”

“Um. Well. I learned them when I was younger so that my parents never knew when I was swearing. Came in handy later when I wanted to swear at Chad. He hated when I used one of my phrases.”

“Good Lord. All right, then. Four more, baby.”

Smack!

Tears dripped down her face.

Smack!

It was too much. She was so close to saying her safeword.

Smack!

Just one more. Just one.

The last one landed and she was done. She was sobbing. Lying exhausted over his lap. He rolled over her, then lay on his back and held her on top of him, rubbing her back.

“It’s okay. You’re all right. Good girl. It’s all done.”

He kissed the top of her head as she stopped crying, then rolled them so they were both facing each other on their sides. “You know what?”

“What?” she whispered.

“I don’t think I can paddle you again. From now on, I’m going to use my hand only.”

“Oh, thank God. Because I nearly used my safeword and my butt is so sore.”

He frowned down at her. “If I ever take things too far. If you’re in too much pain, you will safeword out. Understand?”

“I will, Daddy. I promise. And I’m sorry for being naughty.”

“All is forgiven, baby.”

“Yes!” Kiesha yelled, jumping to her feet and doing a victory dance. Groans of defeat came from throughout the rest of the Wishing Well. Gwen kind of felt sorry for all the other teams.

Juliet was a machine. She was so smart. Quiet and reserved, she seemed so different from Reuben.

She was also sweet, and she lit up every time she looked over at Xavier and Brick who kept a close eye on her.

Gwen stood, grateful to get off her sore bottom.

“Where are you going?” Kiesha asked.

“Bathroom.”

“I can come. Do you want me to come? I have my Taser.”

“Um, I think I’ve got this.” Why would she need a Taser to pee?

Kiesha shrugged. “Okie-dokie. But I’m here if you need me, New Bestie.”

She wondered how long that nickname would stick. With Kiesha it was difficult to know.

“Where are you going, Shortcake?” Dominic asked, coming up to her.

“Toilet.”

“I’ll walk you over.”

“I can make it there and back myself.”

He frowned. “No. Not happening.”

As they moved to the bathroom, someone yelled out his name. He looked over with a smile as a cowboy walked toward him.

Dominic stopped to talk to the other man, and she tugged her hand free. “Be back in a second. Can’t wait.”

“Straight there and back,” he ordered.

Always so bossy. But she hurried to the bathroom because she was busting. After taking care of business, she stepped out of the stall and moved to wash her hands.

As she looked up, she gasped. “Liv?”

She looked terrible. The poor girl had dark marks under her eyes and was gaunt.

“What are you doing here? I thought you were in Florida?” Why hadn’t someone let her know that she’d left Florida?

“He’s dead. Did you know he’s dead,” she said in a dull voice.

She winced. “Yes, I heard he died of a drug overdose.”

“What am I going to do now that he’s gone?”

“He wasn’t a nice guy, Liv. You can do better.”

Liv drew something from her handbag. A gun.

Oh fuck. Her heart raced. Why did shit keeping happening to her?
