My finger trails over Carver’s large shoulder until I do a full circle and step in right beside him. “Sounds like someone is a little jealous,” I whisper, knowing that he can hear me loud and clear. “What’s the matter, Dante? Does it kill you to know how easy it would be to throw me down and strip me bare? Just imagine how loud I’d scream your name as your tongue worked my clit. My taste on your lips and my fingers in your hair. You and me, it’d be like fireworks. But you’re never going to get it, never going to taste me as I come, never going to feel my legs squeeze around your head, begging for more.” A breathy scoff pulls from deep within as I watch his jaw clench and his stare harden. “And to think just how easily it all could have been yours.”

Carver doesn’t respond, just stares and I watch as he desperately fights for control. A smug grin stretches across my face. I thought he learned what happened when he tried to play with me last night, but I wasn’t going to say no to a refresher course.

With nothing left to say between us, I turn and walk back toward the house, listening to Cruz’s subtle laugh behind me. I can’t help but look back at Grayson, and as I catch his eye, a million messages pass between us. His stare hardens just like Carver’s had, and I know he understands perfectly clear that every last word I just whispered to his friend was meant for his ears too.

As I take myself back inside, I wonder just how many times I can push Carver before he breaks. Surely his patience is wearing thin. He used to fight back. He used to put me right in my place and I’d walk away feeling like a complete fool, but things have changed. Maybe he doesn’t want to fight for it anymore, or maybe he’s just completely given up. Who knows? Maybe he just doesn’t trust himself around me anymore. He gave in to me in that little death dungeon below his house, but emotions were riding high, and now that he’s had his fix, he might just be done.

I let out a sigh and get halfway back to the kitchen when I hear my phone rumbling against the marble countertop. I hurry after it. Only a few people have my number, and those that do know to text. I hate answering calls, but the fact that it’s ringing tells me that it’s got to be important.

I scoop the phone off the counter and glance down at Ember’s name before hitting accept and bringing it to my ear. “Hey, what’s up?” I ask, shoving the phone between my shoulder and ear as I search through the fridge for something to drink.

“Sara’s on the warpath,” she rushes out as I grab the bottle of OJ and step back from the fridge, letting out a sigh. “Apparently, she’s pissed you kissed her last night, and now everyone’s talking about it because it was fucking hot and she’s all scared that people are going to think she’s a les or something like that, which like … who even cares, right? We all know she’s not anyway. That girl would sell her soul to the devil just to have Carver slap her in the face with his dick. But like, that’s beside the point—”

“So, what actually is the point?” I ask, cutting off her rambling.

“Oh, umm … so apparently she just told Taliah Williams that she’s going to go and find you and make you pay for it. Then Taliah told Haylee Martinez, who just got off the phone with me. So, if that’s all true, then she’s probably on her way to your place now, and I assume that means a bitch slap and some high-pitched ranting.”

A loud groan bubbles up my throat. “Are you serious?”

“Unfortunately,” she laughs. “But if you ask me, she’s just pissed that she enjoyed it and now the whole school knows that she’s down for a little girl on girl action.”

“It’s not like she was shoving Carver away and begging me to fuck her,” I laugh. “It was just a kiss and a little touching. It really doesn’t need to be made into something bigger than what it was. Besides, what’s the big deal anyway? Most girls have hooked up with another girl at some point. It’s like a rite of passage.”

“Right,” she says with a scoff. “Besides, I distinctly remember school camp two years ago. After we’d all been sent to bed, there was a party where she got wasted and let some girl finger fuck her for everyone to see. She didn’t care about it then, so I don’t understand why she’d care about this now.”
