It’s too early though, and I know it. Hell, we barely know each other and although our first meeting was fun, passionate, and unbelievably hot, I want a chance to talk to Carolyn and to learn more about her. I don’t want her to be so distracted by a bunch of bells and whistles that she feels overwhelmed. This needs to be a chance for her to get to know the real me, and the best place for that is my penthouse.

With a nod of my head, I turn back to my phone.

Hmm… Well, sweetheart, what I’m picturing might be a little cold for the weather.

She sends me a winking emoji.

Oh? What did you have in mind?

Quickly, I type back, I liked what you wore to the wedding.

Her reply is immediate. A cocktail dress? But that’s too fancy, right? I’ll be a laughingstock.

I smile.

No, I mean what you wore underneath your dress, sweetheart. You were fucking sexy in it.

I can almost hear her giggling. Well, I think I’ll need a little more than that, Preston. What else should I wear? In addition to the lingerie, I mean.

I let her message hang in space for a few minutes. Is she getting hot the way I am from the flirty repartee? Finally, after several long moments, I reply.

Dress comfortably, that’s all I’ll say. Are you alright with coming to my place? I’ll send a car.

For a moment, I think she’ll assume I’m just trying to have sex with her again. I am, of course, but it’s not just that. I can’t wait to get to know this woman, and to learn everything about her.

That sounds lovely, Preston. See you then!

With that, I snap my phone shut with a satisfied smile on my face. Hell, this is going to be fun and I wish Friday weren’t so far away. But until then, all I can do is try to focus on work and with a growl, I turn back to my cold cereal as images of Carolyn drift in my mind’s eye.

Carolyn

Oh wow, I have a date Friday night with the sexy billionaire himself!. I can barely contain my excitement, and when I tell Dani, her eyes go wide.

“Oh my God, do you think you’re going to …?”

I nod.

“I think so. I want to too.”

My friend laughs. “Good because you deserve to have some fun, girlfriend! Let that handsome CEO ravish you because he’s into you, honey. And why wouldn’t he be? You’re gorgeous and sweet. You’re a total catch.”

I bite my lip with some uncertainty.

“But Preston’s a billionaire. He could have anybody he wants and I guess … well, why me? I mean, he could literally date a movie star, an actress, or a girl who models for Playboy. And I’m just me. Carolyn Kraft who works at Frosty Freeze,” I say ruefully. It’s true too. The girls I’ve seen Preston pictured with in celebrity magazines were rail-thin, with figures sculpted from hours of exercise, fake boobs, and blonde waterfalls of hair. I don’t have any of that. I’m not even close because while I wouldn’t say I’m overweight, I’m certainly not thin. My curves are generous, and my rump big and sassy. I can’t lose weight either because I’ve always preferred reading to running, and would much rather sit and devour poetry than go to the gym. So why would Preston want me, when he already has a “type” that’s decidedly different?

Oh my God. What if he was just tipsy on champagne when we hooked up at the wedding? I was dolled up in my dress, looking much fancier than I ever normally do, so maybe that combined with the beer goggles skewed his decision-making skills. Holy shit. Maybe if we were going to an expensive restaurant, I could get dressed up again, but we’re set to meet at his apartment on Friday night. Would it be weird to wear a fancy outfit to his home?

Dani giggles while throwing me a look.

“You have a lot on your mind, don’t you?” she asks sympathetically. I shake my head.

“Yeah, I guess I’m new to dating a billionaire,” I say with a wry smile. “Hope I don’t mess it up.”

After agonizing all week, I end up deciding to wear a maroon cocktail dress to Preston’s place. Hell, I don’t care if I’m overdressed because no way am I showing up in jeans and a t-shirt. But now, I look at myself in the mirror and frown. Is this okay? My curls are swept to one side and tied with a fabric headband, and I put a little color on my lips to draw attention to the plush pout. My dress hugs my curves without being skeezy, and there’s a slit at the thigh which is high but not outrageous. Three-inch heels complete the look, and if Preston looks at me askance, I decide that he’s just going to have to deal. Suddenly, the buzzer rings and I trip downstairs.
