“Mine,” Devlin growled, his eyes glowing an unnatural green. “Always.”

Jules could only hum in agreement, wrapping his legs and arms around his alpha as he was given the fucking of his life. Devlin was a little heavier and wider in this form, and the sensation of his furred chest against his sensitive nipples was amazing. His cock drilled into him like a machine, relentless, harder and harder, and soon Jules was coming again, his hole clenching around the cock in him as Devlin started spilling into him, knotting him so good Jules saw stars.

Fucking hell.

He felt amazing. He’d never felt better in his life.

But his eyes snapped open when sharp teeth touched his scent gland.

“Stop,” he said quickly.

He was kind of stunned when it actually worked. He had thought Devlin would be too far gone in his rut to control his actions.

But Devlin did stop and raised his head, his nostrils flaring and his brows furrowed in something like confusion.

Jules put his hand on his furry cheek and stroked it. “Not like this,” he said softly. “I want you to be in full control of your actions when we bond this time. I want you to remember it, love.”

He didn’t know how much of what he said Devlin understood when he was like this, but he must have understood enough, because he didn’t attempt to bite him again.

The rest of the night was a blur. A blur of rough sex and overwhelming pleasure.

By the time it was over, Jules felt pleasantly sore and very well used.

When the first rays of sunshine filtered into the room, Devlin’s body finally shifted back. He was still inside Jules when it happened, so it felt kind of… interesting. Apparently Devlin’s knot was a slightly different shape in his shifted form. Both felt equally amazing though.

“Good morning,” Jules said sleepily, touching Devlin’s smooth, muscular chest. Mmm, he was rather fond of the fur, but this was even better. So much more skin.

Devlin opened his eyes and stared at him.

“I’m going to kill you for not warning me, you dick,” Jules said with a smile. “I nearly had a heart attack.”

But Devlin didn’t smile back. The look he gave him was anxious and searching. “I didn’t hurt you or scare you?”

Jules rolled his eyes. “Do I look hurt? Or scared? It was great sex—lots of great sex—though I do prefer it when you can actually communicate in more than grunts and ‘mine.’” He grinned. “But it was very hot. I’m looking forward to your next rut.”

The smile appeared in Devlin’s eyes first, those beautiful green eyes lighting up with amusement and endless affection. “Only you,” he said, stroking Jules’s cheek with his thumb. “You’re unbelievable.”

Jules’s chest warmed. He still had trouble believing that this look was for him, that this gorgeous, insanely attractive, powerful alpha wanted him—loved him. He was just Jules. Ordinary, plain Jules Blake. But when Devlin looked at him this way, he felt beautiful and interesting, like he was the most desirable person in the world.

“You were jealous of yourself, huh,” Jules said with a cheeky smirk. “It’s kind of hilarious in retrospect.”

Devlin snorted, his hand stroking Jules’s back. “It was me physically, but I wasn’t the same alpha,” he said, his expression turning thoughtful. “I smelled different, didn’t I?”

Frowning, Jules nodded. “Kind of similar, yeah, but different enough. Why? That’s what I don’t understand.”

“The Xeus you met was the result of whatever experiments your uncle had done to me,” Devlin said, a wrinkle forming between his brows. “Apparently those experiments made me capable of some rational thinking, but they also affected my body chemistry enough to alter my scent. We were clearly still compatible enough to bond, but…”

“You were a slightly different alpha than you are normally,” Jules finished for him.

“Yes.” Devlin’s expression darkened as he gazed at Jules, his hand pulling him tighter. “But it’d be a lie if I said that I wasn’t glad to learn that I’m your first and only alpha. I am. I’m thrilled.”

Jules had always considered himself a modern, progressive person who scoffed at the archaic fetishism of omega purity. But right now, seeing the look of satisfaction in Devlin’s eyes, all he could feel was fond exasperation—and pleasure. He liked pleasing his alpha. He loved making him happy. It was the best kind of high.

“I’m glad it was you, too,” he said softly. He was. The knowledge that Devlin had always been his, that he’d never really been Liam’s… it was such a relief. It finally erased the guilt he had felt over stealing his brother’s suitor. Devlin had been his mate long before he had even met Liam. He was his, Jules’s. He always would be.

Unable to bear it anymore—he wanted him closer—Jules lifted himself on his elbows and kissed Devlin hard, greedily inhaling his addictive scent. Gods, he loved him. So fucking much. He would never get enough of this man.
