I hold his gaze, my best friend, my brother, and nod. “I’d pay to see her knock you on your ass.”

“Shit, she does it with a look. Dude, the right woman…they’re dangerous,” he tells me, and I slowly nod, agreeing with him completely. I look down at my phone, Tennessee’s smiling face staring up at me, and I ignore that dickface beside her. I swallow hard and then glance back at Owen.

“Maybe I will call her.”

“I would. One more time.”

Before I can muster the balls to do so, Sawyer comes into the stretching room. “Hey, Coach wants us for a moment,” he says, and we hop up since Coach says jump, and we ask how high.

“Did we have a meeting?” I ask, because it’d be just like me to miss it.

“No. We’ve got some exciting news,” Coach says as I come toward him. He hands me a piece of paper, and I stop since I can’t read and walk. Give me a stick, and I can carry a puck like no other, but don’t make me read while trying to do anything else. I only get to the first word before everything around me stops.

Tennessee Dent of CapitalCare is excited for this opportunity to work with the IceCats.

My gaze snaps up at the same time Owen’s does, his eyes meeting mine, before I look forward to all the guys standing around Coach. We make our way to where everyone is gathering. And as my gaze falls on her, it’s as if I’ve been knocked into the boards by a six-foot-six, 230-pound dude whose wife I slept with.

Instead, it’s by the girl who has starred in my dreams for the last three months.

In the flesh. Boy, even my dreams haven’t done her justice. She wears black athletic pants and a long-sleeved blue CapitalCare tee. Her hair is curled to perfection, half up with a blue ribbon. It takes me back to the orange one that teased my nose when I kissed her hair and held her body to mine.

Holy. Fuck.

“I’d like everyone to meet Tennessee Dent. She is from CapitalCare, and she will be helping us with speed, agility, and improving everyone’s shot.”

A wide smile is plastered on her face, but I can see the uneasiness in her eyes as she stares straight at Coach, not anywhere else. I can see her hand shaking as she flexes and balls it up over and over again. Does she remember this is the team I play for? I feel like she should; it was a big part of why I spent time explaining what a hat trick was, considering I’m a hockey player from South Carolina. I move slightly to the left and step into her line of sight.

Beside me, Owen murmurs, “Oh, this is about to be awesome.”

I ignore him, crossing my arms and standing tall as I stare at her, re-memorizing the curve of her jaw, the tilt of her eyes, and how damn full her lips are. Her unique eyes meet mine, and the room falls away. I don’t hear or see anything but her. Her breath catches visibly, her cheeks burn with a flush that travels down that sexy neck of hers. Tennessee’s lips part, and such a beautiful look comes over her face. An expression somewhere between pure desire and pure horror, but I don’t give a shit about the latter. I’m lost in the desire because I feel it every-fucking-where. My body burns for hers, and as she tears her gaze from mine, pulling in a deep breath, all I can do is tell myself not to grab her and take that naughty mouth with mine.

“You’ll need to sign that sheet of paper before you can work with her,” Coach says, and I look over, snatching a pen from Sawyer, who is gnawing on it, and sign it quickly. I push past the guys, coming toe-to-toe with Tennessee as she takes in a quick gasp. Her eyes widen and her jaw drops as she looks up at me, and all I can do is think how fucking beautiful she is. Once more, I will myself not to take her into my arms and run to the nearest spot where we can be alone.

“Name the time and place, Ms. Dent. I am excited that fate has given me the opportunity to work with you,” I announce, my gaze saying one thing, while my words are all business.

She doesn’t move, and neither do I. Heat travels from the tips of my toes to the top of my head, and everything inside me vibrates for her. I’ve waited for this moment; I’ve dreamed of having her within arm’s reach, and I know what I want to do. What I need to do. But I resist. The passion in her eyes burns into mine, and I can see the flush spreading up her neck. Nothing but pure, undeniable desire flows between us, yet I don’t move, and I don’t know why.
