I hesitated, unsure how to phrase my question. “Sophie, my boyfriend owns a sex island that you and your husbands have been guests at. I need you to define ‘grown-up time’.”

She giggled. “Define it as a relaxing day, maybe a barbecue, and then see where things go? We’re not going to push you into anything. You’re my friend. I have lots of friends I don’t bang.”

“But some that you do,” I guessed.

“Exactly. Come out, we’ll talk a little business, and if we do other business, that’s what happens. If not, we’re still going to have fun. Just no alcohol,” she stated firmly.

“Oh, god, yeah, I wouldn’t think of it.” I already knew her husband, Neil, was a recovering alcoholic.

“Cool. Some people are so weird when you tell them that. Like they can’t have fun without it.” Dropping her voice conspiratorially, she added, “Weed is fine, though.”

“I appreciate that.” I laughed. We made arrangements to meet up next Tuesday, though I had to clear the plan with Matt. After the call ended, I put Business Charlotte back on for my walk to his office. I stopped at his spooky assistant’s desk and asked, “Is he in a meeting or on a call?”

She shook her head. “No, he’s free.”

It was crucial to ask, after I found out that I had a free pass to interrupt him. I’d made too many awkward entrances that intruded on meetings and phone calls, and while Matt had been totally fine with that, I wasn’t. I never wanted to give people the impression that I considered myself special or outside the rules. I even knocked before I went in.

“I know that knock,” Matt called as I opened the door.

He looked so fucking good sitting behind his desk with his jacket off and his shirtsleeves rolled up. No tie, because I’d suggested that he could absolutely rock that type of look. I’d been right.

“Can we take next Tuesday off?” I asked. He blinked in surprise, and before he could answer, I hurried to add, “To go out to the Hamptons to meet with our potential investors in Ascend Manhattan?”

I was starting to hate that name. We needed a better one.

I would get the team brainstorming that, too.

“The Hamptons is awfully far,” he began, and I braced myself for disappointment. “We’d better take Wednesday off, too. To recover from the drive.”

“Or if we stay over?” I chewed my bottom lip. “Nothing set in stone, but it was pretty obvious that something might be on the table.”

He chuckled. “Knowing those three? I assumed so. Not that I know them, know them. But from the resort—”

“I assume that anyone who goes to Ascend Red is a serious kinkster.” He didn’t have to explain that to me. And since one of her husbands had already fucked me, it wasn’t like we were treading uncharted waters.

“We’re going to drive up and get there around lunchtime for a good, old-fashioned barbecue, enjoy some time by the pool, and...” This was the crucial part of my visit to his office. “We need to talk about hiring Sophie.”

“To do what?” Matt asked, leaning back in his chair.

I sat on the corner of his desk and planted my high heel on the seat between his legs. “I want this club to be modern. Hip. And who better to help me with that vision than someone who worked for the biggest fashion magazine on the planet before founding another one?”

Matt nodded absently as he thought. I could tell that he liked the idea.

“You already talked to her about this?”

“Without asking you,” I admitted, wincing. “I know, I should have checked first.”

“Yeah, I’m a real hard-ass. I never give you anything you want, and you have zero power in this office.”

I sighed heavily. “I’m trying to do this by the book. I need to prove that I’m good at this job, even if I did get it through blatant favoritism.”

“By the book?” He slid his fingers up my pantleg to encircle my ankle. Removing my shoe with his other hand, he pressed my foot directly against his crotch. “We fuck all over this place. You think that’s by the book?”

“No, that’s foolish of us and we should stop doing it.” But I lightly ground my toes against his hardening cock through his trousers. Then, my senses returned. “I can’t stay in here with you. I have a brainstorming session going on right now that I need to get back to.”

With a huff of impatience, he put my shoe back on my foot and lowered it so I could hop down from the desk. “Fine. I’ll save this for later. But before you go, you have to do something for me.”

“What?” I asked, my eyes narrowing with suspicion.

“It’s totally easy,” he promised. “You have to masturbate to orgasm and let me lick you clean.”
