The aftershocks rolled through me as he fucked me through his orgasm and, finally spent, laved the bite until his tongue dragging over my skin caused renewed trembling.

“I love you, my prince,” I confessed in a voice I didn’t recognize, both thick and guttural. “And I will love you forever.”

“Yes, you will, my consort, and always remember…you’re mine.”

I could never forget.

Later, lying in bed, tangled together, he was stroking my hair, telling me all about the coronation the following day. Between his languorous, drugging kisses, his mellifluous voice, and the heat from his body, I was fading.

“Are you listening to me?”

“Every word,” I assured him, kissing the hollow of his throat.

He was explaining about all the different items he’d have to hold in his hands: a spear, a sword, some kind of orb, and a scepter. They all represented some part of the realm and were important to someone.

“…under my banner.”

“I missed something,” I yawned.

“I said that the coronation will be long and tedious, but tradition must be followed in this instance for everyone to understand that all parts of the realm fall under my banner.”

“Gotcha,” I said, breathing in the scent of leather and musk that was all him, the fermented berries from the wine I’d drunk, the vanilla cream he’d licked from my lips, and sandalwood and sweet plums from all the people we’d both hugged. “God, you smell good.”

His laugh was filthy, and I moaned loudly.

“I think perhaps we’ll skip the coronation and stay here in bed forever.”

I felt that was a marvelous idea and told him so before I kissed him.

“Perhaps we’ll revisit this plan in the morning,” he rumbled softly. “What says the prince’s consort?”

“I will always do my prince’s bidding,” I murmured, closing my eyes.

“You won’t,” he said with a sigh. “But I wouldn’t have you any other way. You are my very heart.”

And he was mine.
