"Cannot," I breathe.

"I didn't come here looking to fuck," he growls, his lips inches from mine. "But goddamn, you're making it hurt."

"W-what?"

"My fucking cock." He groans, his breath pelting my lips. "It aches like a motherfucker right now because of you."

"Oh." I lick my lips.

He growls a dark, rumbling sound that sends chills ripping through me. "Fuck, you're making it hard to remember that you're supposed to be the enemy," he mutters again, and then his lips touch mine in a featherlight caress.

Before I can even process the feel of his lips against mine or what he just said to me, he's across the room, his forehead against the wall. The muscles in his back bunch, his suit jacket pulled taut across his broad shoulders as he fights for control.

"Go home, Jamie," he grits out.

"Jonas, I…." I want to tell him that his secret is safe with me and that no one will find out he was here from me. I want to tell him that I'm not his enemy and would never reveal that he was here. I want to ask who he came here to find. But I don't get the chance.

"Go. Home."

I jump, startled by the dark command vibrating in his voice. Startled by how desperate he sounds.

Like a coward, I scurry for the door.

"Hey!" Veronica cries into the phone. "Are you okay?"

"Hey, I'm fine. Why?" I drop my bag beside my desk before setting my coffee cup on top, juggling the phone between my ear and shoulder.

"Uh, because I haven't heard from you," she says. "I was worried."

"Crap." I close my eyes, taking a breath. "I'm sorry. I should have texted you when I left."

"It's okay. I just wanted to make sure you were all right." She pauses. "How did the night go? Did you meet anyone, or did you run screaming into the night as soon as I went to the bathroom?"

"I explored for a little while," I hedge, reluctant to mention Jonas. I trust Veronica with my life, but the freaking walls have ears around this place. The last thing I want is for my boss to find out he was at a BDSM club last night. There will be no killing the story if Darren finds out. He'll demand we run it, and despite what Jonas thinks, I'm not his enemy.

I'm not a total garbage human, either. Everyone in that club deserves their privacy. I may have gone there out of rabid curiosity, but I never had any intention of using anything I discovered for a story. What consenting adults do is their own business.

Besides, I believe Jonas. He wasn't there for the kink. I don't know who he was looking for inside Dionysus or why, but he wasn't there for a good time. And I'm not letting Darren drag his reputation through the mud for ratings.

It hurts that Jonas expects me to do exactly that.

I'm not who he thinks I am…and yet this job makes me exactly who he thinks I am.

"Did you meet anyone?" Veronica asks. My best friend is insatiably curious about everything under the sun. She should have been a reporter herself. But she inherited her grandmother's company early this year, making her one of the richest women in Nashville at twenty-three.

You wouldn't know it by looking at her. She's painfully shy and doesn't have a stuck-up or spoiled bone in her body. I was honestly shocked she even suggested going to Dionysus in the first place. But she's been feeling a little lost since she lost her grandmother. I think she wanted to do something out of character.

"No. Did you?" I ask.

"Maybe," she whispers. "Um…maybe."

I blink, shocked. Like me, Veronica is a virgin. Though for her, it hasn't been for lack of opportunity. Men throw themselves at her. Or, rather, at her fortune. She's guarded her heart closely because of it, refusing to let anyone close. If she thinks she met someone, it's a big deal.

"Was he good to you? Did you have fun?" I ask, trying not to pry even though I'm dying to know every detail.

"Yes, and yes." She laughs quietly. "Um, I'm actually still at the club with him."

"You're still there?" I pull the phone away from my face to look at the time. It's fifteen minutes until seven. Okay. I am totally prying. "I want to know everything. Lunch today?"

"Tomorrow? I have plans today."

"Okay," I say slowly, and then frown. "I want his name, please."

"Are you going to be nosy?"

"Probably."

She laughs quietly. "It's Drew Grimme."

I grab a pen and scribble the name down, determined to look him up. Either he's a member or the guest of a member. It's the only way into Dionysus. So he shouldn't be too hard to find.

My office door flies open. Darren barges in, his ruddy face set and his blue eyes snapping with anger. My stomach sinks. It's way too early to deal with whatever has his panties in a bunch. I haven't even finished my dang coffee.
