When Ivor pulled back to look into his face, the absolute desire stamped on his features sent shock through Rowan.
“Make no mistake, Rowan, I want you. Badly.”
“I want you, too.” This time, Rowan didn’t let his embarrassment get the better of him. He looked Ivor right in the eyes. “Next time you need to feed, do it from me. While I’m here.” He swallowed the lump in his throat. “Please.”
“Fuck, you beg prettily,” Ivor muttered as he held Rowan’s jaw again, staring at his lips. “I want to make you beg in so, so many ways.”
Rowan was about to turn into a human puddle. Except for his cock, which he knew was obvious. As if Ivor had read his mind, he looked down, and again, heat flared in those dark eyes.
“Sex between us will be the opposite of bad, Rowan Forrest. But I’m still guarding you.”
“I didn’t hire you. There’s no money being exchanged here.” Rowan placed his hand over Ivor’s, which was still on his jaw. “Last night, when you left and I knew why, I was upset. I know I have no right to feel jealous, but I did. I do.” He turned and kissed Ivor’s palm. “I know it’s probably your magic, but I’ve never been this attracted to anyone in my life.”
“I haven’t used my magic on you,” Ivor said quietly. “Not once.”
“Oh, then it must be because it’s you. I know I’m probably not as gorgeous as the people you’re used to but—”
Ivor slid his hand over Rowan’s mouth to stop him. “Rowan, I can tell that you’ve had quite a number done on you, but you need to hear something right now. I was attracted to you instantly, and it’s only grown the more I’ve come to know you. I want you and just you. So badly, in fact, that when I went out to feed last night, I couldn’t do it. Not even though I need to be at my top strength in order to fight this fucking draugr.” He cupped Rowan’s cheeks and leaned in until his breath brushed over Rowan’s lips. “So forget whatever you’ve been told and please, don’t go into this thinking you’re not the drop-dead sexy fucker you are. I have never, in my life, walked away from a willing meal when I am this hungry, and I did last night.”
Rowan was stunned his knees didn’t go out. All these feelings, the constant hum of desire, the heady lust—they were returned. Ivor felt the same way. “So,” he whispered and licked his lips. “Are you still hungry?”
“Starved.”
“Then use your magic on me. Take from me.”
Ivor smiled before he softly kissed Rowan’s lips, then pulled back, his expression suddenly focused. “We’re not going to have sex here, where so many beings with super hearing are close by because, Rowan, I have every intention of making you beg.”
“Oh, fuck.” Was he trembling because it certainly felt like he was trembling? And he wasn’t even embarrassed about it in the least. “What if I start doing that now?”
Humor shot into those dark eyes and Ivor laughed. “Oh, we are gonna have some fun.”
Rowan was so ready for that fun to start, right then and now.
Chapter Sixteen
Rowan
Awareness just burned between Rowan and Ivor throughout the entire day. It was now around eight at night, and Rowan had taken a huge stack of printouts into the main office area so he could glance at Ivor as he worked. Every time he looked Ivor’s way, it was to find those dark eyes on him, lust shimmering in their depths. But he also noted the faint circles under Ivor’s eyes and knew the incubus’s magic needed to be filled. He wanted to do that so badly, it was all he could do not to drag Ivor somewhere private and find out just how good sex could be.
So he tried to focus on the work.
But it was no use.
He gave up and stared at Ivor, his mind slipping into fantasy.
The crowd roared as the last gladiator stood, surrounded by bodies, his steel greaves reflecting the bright sun. Greaves streaked with the blood of the fallen. He ripped off his helmet, long black hair flowing down his back, and stared up into the crowd. His eyes searched and landed on Rowan.
Ivor would live another day only to fight again. But his stare told Rowan all he needed to know. That Ivor longed for a life lived with him. They’d only been together once—Rowan brought to him as a reward for a victorious fight. And the gladiator had touched him with gentle hands and a warm, wet mouth. But they’d also lain together, long into the night, and shared their dreams of a different life. Rowan had cried when he’d been forced away with the morning sunlight.
One night.
One night was all they’d ever have.
