His eyes darkened possessively, making something deliciously arousing swirl in her stomach. But a few seconds later, he pushed to his feet, his gaze narrowing as it slowly traveled from her head to her toes, then back up again, searing her with his hot perusal.

His jaw clenched tight. “If you walk into the club wearing that outfit, I guarantee that at least half of the guys there are only going to be thinking about one thing.”

She innocently blinked at him. “And what’s that?”

“Taking you home with them and fucking you,” he said, his voice a low growl.

If he meant to shock her, his brazen comment had the opposite effect, and instead, she wondered if he was having those same thoughts. She sure as hell hoped so.

She lifted a shoulder in a shrug. “Good. It’s been a while and there’s nothing wrong with a one-night stand to scratch that itch,” she said, managing to hold back a smirk that would give away her giddiness at his obvious jealousy.

“Not on my goddamn watch,” he said irritably, his gaze dropping to her loose-fitting neckline and the cleavage on display. “You need to change.”

She rolled her eyes at his caveman attitude. “Into what? A burlap sack?”

“Preferably,” he gritted out.

She laughed in amusement. “Sorry, mine’s at the cleaners,” she said in a cheeky tone, then headed for the front door. “Maddie and Avery are ready to be picked up, so let’s go,” she said when he didn’t immediately follow her.

He swore beneath his breath, and it took effort to continue to hold back her grin. He was the one who refused to touch her or give in to the undeniable attraction between them. Yet he clearly didn’t want anyone else making moves on her, either. Not that there was anyone else she wanted.

Hmm. The notion put a little pep in her step and filled her head with all the fun ways she could rile him up tonight to see what happened.

This evening might be more interesting than she’d anticipated.

Chapter Eleven

After picking up Maddie and Avery, Derek drove them to Club Ten29 in downtown Manhattan. Though it was only seven o’clock and early in terms of clubbing time, a long line of people already waited to get inside. He wasn’t surprised. The place was both popular and exclusive. He drove up to the valet, and once he and the girls exited the SUV, Derek swapped his keys for a ticket from the attendant.

He’d received a text from Asher, who was already inside with Nikki, waiting in the VIP area—a perk courtesy of their friend and one of the owners, Jason Dare. Asher had taken one look at the line around the side of the building and called, pulling strings so they didn’t have to wait hours for a chance to get inside the trendy nightclub. Derek should have thought of doing the same, but his mind had turned to mush the second he’d seen Jessica walk down the stairs in that sexy fuck-me outfit. His teeth hadn’t unclenched since.

Escorting the three chatty women to the door, Derek gave the security guy his name and they were immediately granted access. As soon as they walked inside the modern, upscale club, upbeat techno music pulsed through him. Colorful LED wall lights illuminated the spacious main area, which also included two bars, seating areas for socializing, and a massive dance floor.

The lower level was already filled with people, which made him feel claustrophobic. “You want to head up to the VIP area? Asher and Nikki are waiting,” he asked the women, hoping they’d agree so he could keep a closer eye on Jessica.

She gave him a full-wattage smile. “No, we want to be where the fun is.”

He rolled his eyes. Of course she did.

Jessica glanced up to the second level and waved to Nikki, who was sitting at a table with Asher that overlooked the bar and dance area, and gestured for her to join them.

Once she made her way downstairs, his sister let him know Asher remained at the VIP table. One glance told Derek that Asher kept a close eye on his fiancée from where he was sitting. Jessica, meanwhile, looped her arm through Nikki’s and the four women headed toward the bar for a drink.

Derek quickly scanned the area. Just as he thought, the wolves were out tonight, and Jessica’s sexy outfit, combined with her gorgeous face and body, attracted more than a few interested male stares. Avery, Maddie, and Nikki were also dressed up, but they weren’t in clothing that showed nearly as much skin, which made Jessica stand out even more, and another round of annoyance settled inside him.

With her gorgeous blond hair hanging down her back, those luscious curves outlined in formfitting leather pants, and the fuck-me heels that seemed to lengthen the legs he wanted wrapped around his waist, she was going to wreak havoc with his sanity tonight.
