“Bitch,” Ringo muttered as he stood to leave. The second he did, Rocket shoved me off his lap -- carefully -- and stood to stalk toward the other man. Two strides later, Ringo was on the floor while Rocket pounded the fucking shit outta him.

I knew I should intervene. I knew I should. It wasn’t that he’d called me a bitch -- sticks and stones may break my bones and all -- but the fact was he couldn’t seem to keep his fucking mouth shut. Unlike Falcon, he wasn’t trying to one-up me. He was trying to justify his stupidity. He deserved what Rocket was giving him for what he’d said in reference to Claw’s suicide. He deserved more for not backing off.

Scarlet lived at the Iron Tzars compound along with Apple, my twin, but we all FaceTimed when we could. Her being in Indiana and me being in Florida made for some serious long-distance issues. I missed Scarlet and Apple more than I ever thought I could miss someone. But if Scarlet’d been here and Ringo had said something like he had and hurt her feelings? Yeah. I’d have to kill the bastard, and I didn’t much want to do that. It wasn’t that I was squeamish. I’d watched them torture Hammer, and that had been the most brutal thing I’d ever imagined. It was because the men and women of Grim Road MC were family. Ringo was that asshat older brother you wanted to pound into the ground, but who no one else better touch. Having to kill your own family was never a fun thing. No matter how much they fucking deserved it.

Rocket pounded the other man. With each hit, Ringo grunted. I think Ringo tried to either fight back or fend off Rocket a couple of times, but the president of Grim Road was merciless. Rocket didn’t give him the chance to fight back. He continued to beat Ringo until the other man quit fighting back altogether. The sound of Rocket’s fist meeting Ringo’s face was like a wet, sickening combination of a smack and a thud. When Rocket finally stepped away, Ringo was unconscious and there was blood everywhere, including splattered all over my man’s arms and T-shirt. Maybe it made me a little deranged, but the violence Rocket dished out on my behalf turned me the fuck on.

“Take that little puke somewhere he can recover. Have Bullet check on him. No pain killers, even if Bullet thinks it’s safe for him to have them. He gets to suffer for callin’ my woman a bitch.”

Mace, who’d been sitting at the bar, scrubbed a hand over the back of his neck. “Rocket, she kind of is a bitch. It’s her gimmick. And yeah, like she said, she owns the shit.” When Rocket’s head snapped around to the other man, Mace hastily added. “I’m just sayin’ it’s part of her charm and the reason we all felt like she was the right person for the VP position.”

“It’s fine, Rocket. Mace is right, and you know it same as I do. I’ve never claimed to be anything but.” I grinned at my man. Rocket was as protective as they came, and it was sweet as fuck. Though I’d never tell him that. He’d take it as an insult. Though, saying he was sweet might get me fucked hard enough that I would never think he was sweet again…

“Not the point. You’re my woman before you’re vice president of this club. Anyone disrespects you does so at their own peril. And that’s not counting what I know you’ll do to them later.”

“Exactly!” I grinned. “Don’t worry. Ringo’ll get his.”

“He already did,” Rocket said, reaching for me. He wrapped his big arms around me and lifted. I’d have to wrap my legs around his waist, or he was going to carry me with my feet dangling in the air. So I twined my arms and legs around him while he carried me from the room. I had a feeling I was about to get laid. And I wasn’t at all broken up about it.

Chapter Two

Rocket

Did I need to beat the fuck outta Ringo? Probably not. Lemon could take care of herself in any verbal confrontation. If someone truly did hurt her feelings or physically harm her, I’d kill them. But Ringo was a dick and I needed to hand him his ass occasionally just to assert my dominance. Since Lemon was smaller and not as skilled a fighter, I stepped in. Didn’t mean she wasn’t every bit as dominant as any of the guys here, just meant she was physically weaker. Of course, she was wily and sneaky, which made up for her lack of physical strength. I had no doubt, at some point in the next few weeks, just as the bigger man had forgotten the whole confrontation, he’d find Nair in his shampoo or some kind of funky hair dye in his beard oil or whatever. A shrinking violet Lemon was not.
