I love how open she is. And maybe I’ll do the whole threesome thing one day, but for me, I like to give whoever I’m with my full attention. Sex is intimate and intense, and I’m not sure I’d get the same high if I was trying to multitask.

“So this threesome went okay, then? No jealousy?”

“Yeah, Frenchie was cool about it. Unlike the last guy.” She rolls her eyes.

“Still don’t know his name, huh?”

“I know what it is, I just can’t pronounce it.”

She looks sleepy, so I go up and order our usuals before carrying everything back to the table. As soon as she catches sight of her toast, muffin, and coffee, some of the moping lessens.

“I love you, Kole. I really, really love you.”

“You’re only human.”

It’s not until she’s halfway through her coffee that she finally speaks again. “So how was your weekend? The hockey kids play nice?”

“Actually, they won both games.” It was on purpose and everything. I finally saw some of that talent that’s made Asher so damn cocky.

“Well, that’s a surprise.”

“Even to my dad. He took me and Mom out to dinner last night and couldn’t. Stop. Talking. About it.”

“Ouch.”

“Hmm.” Surprisingly though, it didn’t grate on me as much as it usually does.

“Does your dad at least let you have your own room at away games?”

“You’d think so with the hockey budget this school has. But no, I shared.” I purposely leave out with who, but my voice must do a thing. When I look up, Katey’s staring at me more intently than she has since I got here.

“Shared with …”

“Asher Dalton.” I try to play it down. “I’ve been helping him study. It was a wild weekend.”

She doesn’t need to know I’m not being sarcastic.

“Well, that Tray guy was asking about you at the party.”

I try to picture who the hell Tray is, and with a douchey name like that, I’d usually remember.

“From one of the graduation parties last year,” she prompts.

The vague memory of a flannel-wearing hipster comes to me. “Huh. Okay.”

“He was really annoying and wouldn’t stop talking about you, so I told him to text.”

“Why would you do that?”

“You’re the one who gave him your number last year,” she shoots back.

Fair point. “I was drunk.”

“Well, so was I. Drunk and not interested in him. You really do know how to pick the most boring people to hook up with.”

“It’s not like I keep them around for the conversation.”

I usually don’t keep them around at all. My schedule tends to get in the way. Or, at least, that’s the excuse I use. I’ve never had a regular fuck buddy before, and I don’t know if that’s what this thing with Asher and me is.

Blowing him definitely isn’t a hardship.

And as though I’ve willed him into existence, I look up as a wall of navy-and-silver Mountain Lion jackets walk in, and there he is. His dark hair is all floppy and sexy, and it instantly makes me think of how it looks gripped between my fingers.

Okay, definitely not suggesting waiting until the end of the semester. No fucking way.

There are only two weeks until the next away game … not that I’m counting.

The surprising thing is, though, Asher is with some of his teammates talking. His usual snarl is missing, and he might even be smiling slightly. Holy shit, hell has frozen over.

“Aww,” I can’t help saying. “He’s making friends.”

Katey turns to see where I’m looking. “Who are you—oh, Asher, you mean?”

I nod. “Look at him. Being all social and making an effort. I’m so proud.” And I am. Even though I try to make it sound like I’m being patronizing, seeing Asher with actual live people makes me happy.

And maybe I’m smiling too much because—

Katey gasps. “You slept with him!”

Oh shit. “Don’t know what you mean.”

She throws a sugar packet at me. “What happened, then? You slipped onto his dick?”

I start to laugh. “Fine. But for the love of my face and wanting to keep it intact, keep your voice down.” The people at the table closest to us aren’t hiding their stares.

“How was he?” She takes a slow sip from her mug. “Good enough to throw all your morals out the window?”

“And then some.”

“Dick?”

“Perfect.”

“Did you fuck?”

I mime locking my lips.

“At least tell me if he spanked you. He looks like the punishment type.”

If anything, I was the one doing the punishing.

“Who’s the punishment type?” That deep rumbly voice goes straight to my groin.

I jerk around to see Asher casually leaning against the side of the booth, and fuck, fuck, fuck, I have no idea how long he’s been there. Katey’s face rapidly turns bright red.

Luckily, I’m harder to embarrass than that. “Just a guy from my biology class. Labrat, hunchback but in a cute way. Totally my type.”

Asher takes the liberty of sliding in next to Katey. He leans close, pretending to whisper to her while not taking his eyes off me. “Why do I feel like he’s lying?”
