“Just feel lucky her water didn’t break and you had to go to her,” Dylan says, getting out of his seat. “It would have been the longest plane ride of your life.”

“Wow, you should go into motivational speaking,” Michael deadpans. “And right before you start, you should kick them all in the balls.”

I laugh at the both of them as they bicker like always. “Okay, see you guys later.” I grab my bag and literally run off the plane.

It takes me record time to get home and the minute I walk into the house, I know something is up. “Hello,” I say when I see Gabriella waiting at the bottom of the stairs. “What’s wrong?”

“Why would something be wrong?” she replies, trying not to make me freak out.

“Well, then what’s wrong with your face?” I ask her and she glares at me.

“What’s wrong with your face?” she counters.

“Where is she?” I put my hands on my hips. “Abigail!” I shout her name and she walks out of our bedroom. Well, she actually waddles out of our bedroom wearing a long dress. Her face looks like she hasn’t slept all night and the worry sets in.

I move around Gabriella and take the steps, two at a time. “What happened?”

“Nothing happened,” she says in a low voice, “I’m just having some contractions.”

“Some?” Gabriella says from downstairs. “It’s been going on for thirty-six hours.”

“What?” I shriek and look at Abigail. “Why didn’t you call me?”

“There was nothing for you to do,” she tells me and I walk to her. “I can’t even go to the hospital because the contractions are seven minutes apart.”

“Where is Penelope?” I ask, looking around.

“My mother took her,” Gabriella informs me and I nod. The last thing Abigail would want was for her to worry about her being in pain.

“Did you call Dr. Emmy?” I ask her as I hold her face in my hands and kiss her. I thought I loved her before, but watching her grow with my child in her, it’s brought me to a whole other level. There are no words to describe it, even if you asked me to.

“I did, it’s my body preparing itself.” She tries to calm me down, but then she closes her eyes as she starts her breathing exercises from when we took the Lamaze classes.

I rub her back. “In and out,” I urge softly as she groans. “When was her last one?” I ask Gabriella who takes out her watch.

“Two minutes ago.”

I’m about to yell at her when I look down as I hear a gush come out of her and splash onto my shoes. “Oh my God,” she cries, “my water just broke.”

“Jesus, I thought you peed yourself,” Gabriella says and then picks up her phone. “Alert the press, her water just broke.” She puts the phone down. “Car is packed. All we need is for her to get into the car.”

“I’m not getting into the car like this,” Abigail gasps. “I’m leaking all over the place.”

“Who the hell cares?” I question, not even caring I’m wet.

“I care.” She turns and waddles back into the bedroom. “You change, I’ll change, and then we can go,” she says calmly, “Gabriella!” She yells for her sister. “Can you bring me the underwear with the pads?”

“I never in my life want to know what that is,” Gabriella states, coming into the room as I kick off my shoes.

“It’s on the chair.” She points to the chair with a change of clothes, as if she knew this would happen. She plans for everything every single time,

“Oh my God.” Gabriella picks up the cream-colored thing in her hand. “This is underwear and a pad all I one.”

“Yes,” Abigail says, pulling her dress over her head. “Bring it to me.”

I pull off my socks and toss them in the corner and I’m about to say something when Abigail yells out in pain. “Get in the car!” I yell to Gabriella. “Have the car running”

I walk over to Abigail. “I need you to lift foot.” I hold the underwear on the floor.

“I can do it,” she retorts, grabbing it from me and quickly putting them on. It takes thirty seconds to get her into the car.

I sit in the back with her, my arm around her shoulders. “I’m having another one,” she announces to me, putting her head on my shoulder as she tries to breathe through the pain, but this time she moans out.

“You got this,” I soothe her and by the time we reach the hospital, she is having them every single thirty seconds on the nose.

Gabriella parks at the entrance and jumps out, running into the hospital, while I start to get out of the car. We have to stop while she has another contraction, this one is more intense than the last one because she moans the whole time. The breathing is out the window at this point. “I’m not one to complain, but this shit hurts,” declares sitting in the wheelchair.
