That polar bear is tough and he looks like he could take a lot of damage, but even a polar bear can’t win against a shotgun slug at close range.

My grizzly bear releases the wolf we’re holding, rushes over, and steps in front of my mate.

“Let him go,” the man says, pointing the gun at me then at Adrian. “Last chance.”

Adrian reluctantly steps off and Knox’s wolf sprints past me. The boys retreat to their motorcycles.

We stay in our bear forms as they phase back, grab their shredded clothes, and step onto their bikes naked.

“You dumb fuck,” Knox hisses as he glares at Adrian’s bear. “You should have stayed gone. Mace is going to hear about this.”

Adrian’s polar bear growls as he watches them start their motorcycles and quickly flee.

We stand guard in the dark quiet street, watching their bikes until they disappear around the bend. It’s only when we can no longer hear the rumbling engines, that we relax and look at each other.

Our bears see each other as mates for the first time and if there weren’t so many questions racing through my mind right now, I’d enjoy the nice tender moment a little more.

My grizzly looks up at him in awe. I can feel the reverence flowing through her body as she looks up at his massive white head with those beautiful blue eyes gazing back at us. He’s so much bigger than me. Bigger than my brothers even.

And he’s all mine.

He lowers his head and lets out a contented moan as he rubs his head against my neck. My grizzly is in heaven as she smells his masculine scent, breathing in as much of him as she can.

We let them have their tender moment and then we phase back into our human forms.

Adrian turns to me, fully exposed in the dark street. It’s the first time I’m seeing this man naked and I cannot look away.

He’s magnificent. Tall and broad with inked up muscles and the longest, thickest, most tempting cock on the planet hanging low between his powerful thighs.

I feel my cheeks getting hot as I stare at it in wonder.

I’d be embarrassed if he wasn’t checking me out just as hard. I revealed my lower half to him at the shop, but he hasn’t seen the rest. Those heated blue eyes are busy taking in every exposed inch of me.

We both linger too long for naked people on a public street, but when we hear voices leaving the bar, we grab our shredded clothes and quickly put them on.

I moan in disappointment when that big glorious cock is covered up with his torn-up jeans. But I know I’ll be seeing it again. Soon.

“Let’s go to my place,” I say as I take his hand and pull him back to the closed restaurant where Magnus’ truck is parked.

We slip inside and Adrian starts driving.

There’s so much I want to talk to him about—our bears meeting, seeing each other naked, wondering if liked what he saw, but we should get the serious stuff out of the way first.

“Who were those guys?”

Adrian lets out a long exasperated breath as he runs a hand through his messy hair. “They’re the reason I left.”

They’re the reason my mate was taken away from me for so long? I want to kill them myself.

“That there was Knox Rourke. Ever heard of him?”

I shake my head.

“He’s the younger brother of Mace Rourke, and second in command of the Rourke’s Warhounds. When I was younger, I walked in on something I wasn’t supposed to see.”

“What was it?”

He twists his hands around the steering wheel, his knuckles squeezed so tight they turn white. “I was called to the Warhounds headquarters to tattoo one of the bikers. Little did I know, I’d be walking into a nightmare. I went through the wrong door and…”

I get shivers all over as he can’t even finish the thought. “What?”

He takes a deep breath and exhales long and hard. “Knox and Mace were running a brutal underground fighting ring. They forced wolf shifters to fight each other to the death.”

“Oh my god,” I whisper. “And you saw it?”

He nods as he keeps those beautiful eyes focused on the dark road.

“The Warhounds ran it and made a fortune, taking a profit from all of the betting. Sick fuckers.”

I picture a young Adrian with his carefree smile and innocent nature walking in and seeing that. It would have been enough to traumatize anyone.

“I tried to leave,” he continues, “but Mace got a hold of me. He forced me into the ring to fight two wolf shifters at the same time. He said if I didn’t kill them, he’d skin me alive and kill everyone I ever loved.”

The air goes still and silent in the truck, just the quiet humming of the engine as we roll down the dark mountain road.
