“A cargo ship?” Diesel muses. “It’s a risk.”

“It’s all we’ve got,” Ace supplies.

I drag my hand down my face. “If I’m wrong—”

“Don’t go to the what ifs,” Diesel says. “What does your gut say?”

I point at the paper, my fingers hovering over the ship. “She’s there,” I tell them. “He’s got her there.”

“Then we go,” Diesel says, getting to his feet, his dark gaze sweeping between me and Ace. “Your gut has never led us astray before, and it’s not about to start today. We go. We get your girl. And then we let Elias rot at the bottom of the fucking ocean.”

KNIGHT

Our fleet of six boats races across the surface of the water under the guise of darkness as I ball my hands into fists at my sides, unable to take my eyes off the massive cargo ship in the distance.

It’s been almost two hours since Harper was dragged away from Izzy’s bleeding body, and with every passing second, my anxiety gets worse. I just need to get in there and find her, but on a ship like this, it’s going to be one hell of a challenge. While there are only five or six passenger cabins, there are upward of one thousand containers that are about forty feet long. He could have stashed her anywhere.

I suppose I should be grateful that the cargo ship hasn’t been loaded yet, seeing as this ship can transport up to fifteen thousand containers at a time. And while I would happily search through every last one of them, I’m not sure Harper has the time for an operation like that.

I stand at the front of the boat, the night air whipping by me as I lift a pair of binoculars and continue assessing the cargo ship. The closer we get, the more intel I receive, and from what I can see on the surface, Elias has hired a team of muscle: ex–military soldiers, hit men for hire, ruthless men who should be locked up rather than walking the length of a cargo ship that’s holding my girl hostage.

Coming in hot with six boats, we’ve already lost the element of surprise, and I watch the hired muscle scampering across the ship like a bunch of rabid rats, trying to prepare themselves for our attack.

I shout out the noticeable threats I see, including who’s stationed where and armed with what weapons. While I don’t doubt they’re going to put up a good fight, they’re not my SWAT team, and they’re not equipped with my training, excellence, or hunger to win.

While they more than know we’re coming, the cover of night works in our favor, and we use it to our advantage as we finally surround the ship. The moment we reach the drop point, I make the signal to go, watching as both my team and our reserves dive straight into the water below, not an ounce of hesitation seen among them.

I throw myself into the water, diving deep and pushing through the darkness, knowing Elias’s men will be watching, but they won’t find us in the water. They’ll be too busy searching the dark horizon that they won’t even see us scaling the side of the ship until it’s too late.

The water is ice cold, and it immediately seeps into my bones, but I push through it like a goddamn seal, determined to get to that ship. My heavy tactical uniform slows me down, but it doesn’t deter me as I swim, and when I finally surface, I’m exactly where I need to be at the base of the ship, watching as one by one, my men emerge from the water and begin scaling the massive ship.

Quickly getting into position, I grab hold of one of the small metal ladders that lead right up to the top of the ship and pull myself out of the water, climbing up the sides like a fucking spider.

My team is invisible to anyone above, and as they begin to get nervous, Elias’s men start shooting at the empty boats we just vacated, having no idea that the threat is already onboard. One by one, my men reach the main deck of the ship, like an infestation quickly taking over.

Reaching the top, I immediately pull up onto the deck and scan my surrounding areas, keeping invisible. I’m at the front of the ship, and from my vantage point, I see it all.

Elias’s men call out to each other as they blindly shoot at the small boats before moving on to the water, having no fucking idea just how fast we truly move.

I see Diesel in the distance, already homing in on his first target, silently taking him out, and as his target’s body falls to the ground, he swiftly pulls it aside before moving straight on to the next. He’s going to be a force to be reckoned with, especially with everything that Izzy is going through.
