“Thanks, Suzie Q. Want to celebrate with a quickie?”
She laughed and pulled back with an affectionate head shake. “I really do, but I have a meeting in fifteen minutes.” She stepped back and smoothed the fabric of her light green dress, adjusted her pale pink glasses, and wagged a finger in my direction. “Later is good though, right?”
“Hell yeah.” I took a step closer and hooked an arm around her waist to pull her flushed against me until each of her curves were placed against mine. “But for now, how about just a little taste of those beautiful lips?”
Suzie opened her mouth just a bit and gasped. “Okay.”
“Good, because now that I’ve been cleared to talk and sing, I can also moan. And groan. And growl.” I let out a low growl and nipped her bottom lip, loving the way she gasped so sensually.
“Gavin?”
“Yeah, Suzie Q?”
“Shut up and kiss me.”
“Happily.” I smiled and then dove in. My hands moved on their own, one gripping her hip while the other slid up the side of her body, over the curve of her breast, and up to spear my fingers in her hair. Her lips tasted like cherries and vanilla, and that low growl she let out was like a shot of adrenaline straight to the cock.
She moaned again and pressed against my erection as she wrapped both hands around me. Our tongues tangoed and our limbs twined in a kiss that went on and on and on. Kissing Suzie was a heady experience all on its own, but right now, when she pushed against me and moaned the way she did, it was an out-of-body experience.
Somewhere in the distance, a bell chimed. Then vibrated. And vibrated again. With a frustrated groan, Suzie pulled back slowly, sinking her teeth into my lip and tugging gently.
“That’s my five-minute warning. Meeting, remember?”
“Yeah,” I groaned. “How about I take you to a fancy lunch in the hospital cafeteria afterwards?” It wasn’t my smoothest move, but the truth was that I just wanted to spend time with her.
She smiled and laughed prettily. “Sounds great. I’m starving now, so in an hour, I’ll be famished.”
“Perfect. I’ll get us the best seat in the house.” She laughed again. “What’s the best seat in the house?”
“Back window overlooking the zen garden. See you in an hour.” She stepped in and pressed a hot but gentle kiss to my lips before she walked back to her desk, grabbed a tablet and a leather case, and rushed out the door.
I stood there, staring after her like a besotted fool, because I kind of was. Suzie was something else, and she had no clue.
And worse, I wanted to keep her to myself for as long as I could.
Suzie
I stood beside the table where Gavin relaxed and stared out at the zen garden, and laughed. “Where on earth did you manage to find a tablecloth?”
Gavin turned slowly, a sexy grin on his face that melted my insides like ice cream on a hot summer’s day. “I’m a resourceful guy.” He stood with a small shrug and pulled my chair out. “Good meeting?”
I rolled my eyes. “No. It was boring and uneventful, just how they’re meant to be. Seems like you’ve been busy for the past hour.”
“Oh, yeah. I rustled up this tablecloth and even got the kitchen staff to use real plates. You’ll see.” Gavin winked and sat across from me with an excited smile. “You said you were hungry and I hope you meant it.”
I damn well did mean it. Morning sickness had been terrible over the past few days, lasting until around eleven o’clock, which made mornings pretty awful. But on the heels of a morning filled with nausea came an afternoon filled with a wealth of food. By lunch each day, I was so ravenous that I could eat whatever I wanted and without guilt. It was a fair trade-off, since breakfast foods were either disgusting like oatmeal, or offered up too many calories like biscuits and bacon and cheese. “I’m starved.”
Gavin looked over my shoulder with a smile as he hopped from his seat. “Our orders are ready.”
Tell him now. This is the perfect time to tell Gavin you’re pregnant with his baby. I needed to tell him, but not here and not now. If he reacted poorly, the scene would play out for the three-dozen people eating and working in the cafeteria right now, and word would spread like wildfire around JRMC before the shift was over.
Later. I would tell him later.
“All right, here we are. Avocado and bacon burger with sweet potato fries for you. Double cheeseburger with the works and onion rings for me.”
I growled at those beautiful words. “Yes, please.” My stomach chose that moment to let out a loud growl that would make a bear proud. “Sorry.”
