With a scowl, he hops back in his truck and screeches his way out of the drive, turning toward me as he reverses out, middle finger extended.

If he thinks that bothers me, he’s sorely mistaken. I got what I wanted; that photo should never trouble Kayla again. She’s mine to protect, and I’ll do it every day for the rest of our lives.

Pushing my way back into the house, I cock my head and listen, but it’s still quiet. I delete Justin’s contact from her device as I head toward the back of the house to check on Kayla.

She’s sprawled across our bed, sleeping peacefully, hips still propped up on the soft mound of pillows I placed under them, legs gracefully spread.

The sight only makes me want her more.

I set her phone on her nightstand, then bend to leave a lingering kiss on her forehead before turning to the shower. Her body may not be ready for more sex yet, but I am. I’ll give her a few more minutes to rest…and maybe let my seed take root.

In thirty minutes, I’ll be waking her again to splash her unprotected womb with more.

Kayla

I hear the water running. Oliver? There’s no one else in the house, so it makes sense, but how am I hearing him shower from my bedroom?

With a frown, I shift to get comfortable and wince. I’m sore—right between the legs. My pussy feels like it’s been battered. And why am I propped up on pillows?

Everything comes rushing back to me. Justin’s photo. My tank top. Oliver’s insistence that he examine my breasts. Oh, my god. He kissed me. And he fucked me without any shred of protection.

I could be pregnant even now.

And that’s what he wants.

The memories are delicious, and I smile, stretch, and sigh. I never expected the rest of my life to start today. I’m so incredibly happy.

Nearby, my phone dings. It’s the sound I’ve assigned to Perrie. She’s one of my best friends. I’m going to miss her after graduation…

I crane my head around and see my phone on the nightstand, then grab it with an outstretched hand. She texted something, but I don’t bother to read it, just dial her. Perrie and I have long shared a very similar secret. I have to tell her my amazing news.

I’m praying it will give her hope.

“Hey, girlie,” she answers. “Did you get my messages about Justin? He’s such a douche. I wanted to give you a heads-up—”

“Forget him. You’re never going to guess what happened to me this morning.”

“What?”

I fill her in, generally speaking. She doesn’t need all the details. What she needs to know is that my secret crush finally gave in to me and we’re going to live happily ever after.

When I finish my explanation, Perrie all but squees for me. “That’s incredible.”

“It was amazing. I’m so glad I waited for him.”

“I’m thrilled for you, doll. And after everything you’ve been through, losing your brother and all, you deserve nothing but bliss.”

“Thanks. But you deserve that, too.”

“You’re sweet.” She speaks the words like someone who’s sure she’ll never have who she truly wants.

“Have you given any thought about what you’re going to say to Hayden when you get back to Phoenix?”

“Of course.”

“Let me rephrase that. I know you think about him all the time. Have you decided what you’re going to do?”

“No,” she admits with a glum sigh. “It’s not like I can blurt out how I feel about him. I did that once. Disaster.”

“Years have passed. You’ve both changed.”

“Probably not enough for it to make a difference. He’s my dad’s best friend and business partner. There are so many obstacles between us…”

“Challenges,” I correct. “And you excel at those. Use that crafty mind. Get creative.”

“And embarrass myself again?” She sighs. “Maybe I should try dating someone else.”

“Don’t settle. Try Hayden one more time. Please. You deserve to be happy, too.”

“I don’t know how my dad would take it, anyway. I doubt he’d approve.”

“There’s a chance my brother wouldn’t have approved of Oliver and me, but it’s our lives. And we’ve decided to be happy together.” I drop my voice as the shower cuts off. “He’s trying to get me pregnant.”

“Already?”

“Why wait? I’m about to graduate. We both know what we want. Neither of us has any interest in waiting for a tomorrow that may never come. We’re grabbing the happiness we can now and making our own new family.”

“You know, you’re right. I’m so thrilled for you.” She groans. “But I’ve got to go. Study group before a presentation on Monday. What kind of horrible professor makes students present a case study at nine a.m. after spring break?”

“An asshole.” I laugh.

“Exactly. You going to spend the weekend in bed with Oliver?”

Just then, the bathroom door opens in a cloud of steam and he steps out wearing nothing but a towel and a smile. “Absolutely. Bye.”
