"I got extra. Just in case,” Liv says.
"Maybe we should skip this TikTok trend and just take the test without all this production."
"We’re doing it, Lane." She pins me with a look, and I groan.
"Fine, so the point of this is for the both of us to take a pregnancy test and then drop them into the bag and shake it up. Then if one says pregnant, we both freak out?”
I’m not sure how this is supposed to be fun or something people watch. I'm not big into TikTok like Liv, but I'm not knocking it either. She’s gotten us so much business and attention on there.
"It will be fun." When she gives me those big puppy dog eyes, I can’t say no. This must be how Sawyer feels all the time.
"If you say so." I open one of the boxes to read the directions. "Will it be fun if they're both negative?"
Liv's shoulders drop. "No."
"Okay, don’t give me the sad face. I'm sure one of us is pregnant." It would most likely be her because I don't feel any different. It's only been a month since the first time Sawyer and I had sex, so it's probably too soon anyway.
Liv, however, swears her nipples are already sensitive and she’s tired all the time. Same here, but that's because Sawyer can't keep his mouth off them and wears me out with sex.
“Let’s do this.” I quickly go to the bathroom first, leaving my test on the sink. When my sister comes out, she’s holding the bag with the tests inside.
“You took forever.” I'm pretty sure the box said to leave them on a flat surface, but I keep my mouth shut. We have extras.
“Let me get us set up.” I follow her toward the front, where she keeps her tripod and ring light. “Are you sure you’re okay?” Liv asks, and I stop pacing.
“I’m good.” I hadn’t noticed that I was doing it before she called me out. Grabbing one of the chocolate kisses Liv keeps in a bowl on the counter, I pop it into my mouth.
“Are you sure? Because you’re eating candy.”
“Sawyer gets me to eat all kinds of stuff now.” I swear I can’t go five minutes without bringing him up. I guess I’m making up for all the time I spent avoiding him.
“I’ve noticed.” Liv rolls her eyes.
I’m not so sure it was really about eating so healthy before. I think it was a way for me to cope. Keeping everything organized and on schedule prevented me from feeling overwhelmed or convinced that the things I desired were unattainable.
It’s nutty, and I get that, but since moving in with Sawyer, I have relaxed. It might also help that I know he’s got it. If I drop the ball in some way, he’s there to catch it. With Liv, as much as I adore and love her and wouldn’t change her for the world, I’ve always fallen into the motherly role.
Liv hits record and starts to talk, but almost as soon as she begins, her phone goes off with an incoming call. When I see Julius’s name pop up, I get the sense he knows what we’re up to. Liv ignores the call, and then I hear my phone start to vibrate from inside my bag.
“We’re busted,” I tell her, and she gets flustered.
“I know! I’ll go fast.”
I’m not paying attention to what she is saying on the video because my focus is entirely on the bag. She’s got her hand in it but is talking to the camera and not pulling it out.
“Liv, you’re killing me here!” I throw my hands up.
“Okay, okay. Can I get a drumroll?”
“No.” I stare at her, and she snorts a laugh. I’m not sure what’s so funny.
“Oh my god, now your man is calling,” Liv says and ignores his call too. But as soon as she does, another call comes in from Katey, and I can’t hold back my laughter. “The whole freaking town knows what we’re up to.”
“Pull the test out.”
“All right, don’t rush me.” She smirks, enjoying this far too much.
Right before she's about to pull the test out, I realize something and snatch the bag from her. “You know what the tests say!”
I narrow my eyes on her, but she won’t meet my gaze.
"No, I don't."
"You little brat." I start to open the bag, but she snatches it back.
"Okay, I know, but let me do it," she says, and I fold my arms over my chest and wait.
She makes a whole thing of shaking the bag and putting her hand in again. The second the test is out of the bag, I see the two pink lines.
"You're pregnant!" I shout.
"I am!" she shouts back and bounces on her heels.
"You couldn't have just told me?" I shake my head, but I'm beyond happy for her. Soon I'll have a little niece or nephew, but twins are also on the table, so it could be both. Liv’s grin is devilish as she reaches into the bag and pulls out the other test.
