I giggled like a schoolgirl. I couldn’t help it. Sure, he derailed my plans for quiet lady time, but I could do a pedicure later. He was so sweet and thoughtful. And sexy… I sighed as his rough hands reached the white cotton panties I had just put on. His eyes widened as he opened my robe to see that I was wearing them and not wearing a bra.

“Damn, woman,” he exclaimed. “Old school. I like it.”

Who knew grannie panties were so hot? But apparently they were. Maybe just because they were the opposite of what I usually wore.

He handed me the entire box of cookies and scooped me up, carrying me and the cookies into the bedroom. I was laughing the whole way. He set me on my feet and tilted my chin up. The heat in his eyes sent a shiver through me. I stopped laughing as he lowered his lips to mine.

“I want to taste you from your head to your toes,” he whispered into my ear. I heard his phone ping. He ignored it and continued undressing me. I gasped as he laid me on the bed and practically dove between my legs, licking and sucking until I was crying out in ecstasy.

He quickly pulled his own clothes off and grinned at me, eager to get to the main event. His phone had not stopped pinging. I giggled and pointed at it.

“Donnie, that is driving me nuts. You better answer it.”

“Don’t want to,” he said as he kissed his way up my body.

“Please, Donnie. I promise I won’t go anywhere.”

He groaned and rolled off of me, grabbing his phone and opening it. He quickly scanned the texts and cursed. He closed his eyes and did some quick mental calculations.

“So much for our lazy afternoon in bed,” he groaned. “I have about twenty minutes, babe.”

“What is it? What is wrong?”

“The creeper.”

“You are going to Dana’s old apartment? Today?”

“Oh, it’s on.”

“Good. It’s time. I’ve been scared for her.”

“Me too,” he admitted, before rolling back towards me. “Now I have nineteen minutes.”

Then he got back to work.

I felt a bit guilty, but I kept him busy a little longer than nineteen minutes. He didn’t complain a bit. I sent him off with a big smile on his face and told him to be careful. There was no knowing what crazy people might do.

I trusted my man to handle his business, but it was natural to worry. I texted the girls to see if anyone wanted to come over and hang while the guys were on a mission. I had no doubt our menfolk would get the bastard, but I was no idea how long it would take. I made a pot of herbal tea and settled in to wait for news.

In the meantime, I got to work on my pedi.

CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

Drake

“I can’t believe we are doing this,” I muttered for the dozenth time. My heart was pounding. My hands were trembling as I parked and pulled the key from the ignition in my brand new truck. I was on the verge of losing my damned mind. “Are you sure?”

Dana gave me a wan smile. I prayed for a second that she would back out. But instead she closed her eyes and nodded.

“I am sure. I hate this feeling. Being afraid all the time…”

I squeezed her hand. I knew she was strong. She hated admitting that this guy had impacted her life. She wasn’t used to needing help. Not like this, anyway.

“I got you, babe,” I promised with another squeeze. “But this part you have to do by yourself.”

She nodded and I kissed her softly. It took everything I had to watch her get out of that car and not follow her. My whole body was tense and ready for action.

Everyone else was already in place. I was parked a few blocks away. I would follow on foot in about five minutes and take position across the street from Dana’s apartment. We already had guys all over the complex. We had people in the basement and on the roof. We had guys on the roof of other buildings. We had cameras. We had walkie talkies.

To say we were armed to the teeth was an understatement. I had a gun, a knife, a roll of quarters, and a fucking chain. I really hoped I got to use the quarters and the chain. I wanted to get up close and personal with the motherfucker who was fucking with my lady.

I wanted to make him suffer.

We were ready. We were more than fucking ready. We were fucking there.

Waiting for this to go down, not being with her, not protecting her for these hopefully brief moments, was one of the hardest things I had done in my life.

I grabbed my walkie-talkie.

“She’s on the move.”

“Got it. Radio silence until this fucker makes a move,” Cain’s voice crackled, echoing in the car. I had the windows closed and the AC blasting. “Ear pieces only,” he added and I put mine in.
