“I heard that!” Vince yelled in the background.

“Good. Maybe you’ll take me out and buy me a beer because you feel so bad for making me help you carry all this shit.”

Clint chuckled. Whatever Vince said next, Clint couldn’t make out. “I’ll let you guys get back to it.”

“We’re done now. Want to come over and have a beer or something? I heard Vince say he’s cooking dinner.”

Vince yelled, “I heard Vince say he’s ordering takeout!”

Clint thought maybe this whole thing would be good for Colby. He’d seemed to have a hard time of it the past couple of years, since he and Lulu broke up. While the Covingtons were loving folks, a lot of pressure also came with that last name. They were so family oriented, got married or were in long-term relationships. They had kids, and they were proud, all knew who they were, and Clint wondered if sometimes Colby got a little lost in all that.

“Nah, that’s okay,” he told Colby. “But thank you anyway.”

“You’re not with your boyfriend?”

“I have a boyfriend?”

“You know you do.”

“Jealous? Wishing it were you?” Clint teased.

“Ha-ha.” They laughed together. “Seriously, though, you’re welcome to come and hang out with us if you want.”

Clint shook his head as if Colby could see him. Hell, he didn’t know why he’d really even called. He’d had no problem being alone before, and he wasn’t quite sure why he was now. August seemed to turn everything in his life upside down, not that he was complaining about most of it.

“Nope. I’m good. Probably gonna hit the sack early tonight.”

“All right, man. Talk soon,” Colby replied, and they ended the call.

Clint made himself dinner and ate outside with the pups. Afterward, he washed dishes, watched some Netflix, and went to bed.

The following morning, Clint had just turned the shower off, when he heard Midnight and Sweetie barking like crazy. He had a doorbell camera, so he plucked his phone off the counter to check who it was, and saw he’d missed a notification. When he opened the app, nothing could stop the smile that stretched across his face.

“I’ll be right down,” he said through the mic.

August looked around, then eyed the camera and nodded.

With just a towel wrapped around his waist, Clint headed downstairs, a lightness in his chest that hadn’t been there before. It was early, and he assumed August was off today. Clint shouldn’t be, but he wasn’t making any promises if August was staying.

He took the stairs and headed over to unlock the door and let him in. “Fancy seeing you here so early,” he teased as August’s gaze raked over him from head to toe.

The second August stepped inside, he slammed his mouth on Clint’s. It caught him off guard, and he stumbled backward before catching himself. He let August’s tongue push its way into his mouth, tasted toothpaste and wondered if August could taste his.

The door banged shut, Clint wasn’t sure how, as they were kissing and grabbing and moving toward the stairs.

“I missed you,” August said into his throat. “I want you. I forced myself not to call, and I don’t even know why. I didn’t want to look needy, I guess? Like I was pushing too fast?” August licked his Adam’s apple, sucked on the skin of Clint’s throat. Jesus, weren’t they a pair?

“Me too,” he admitted, which made August stop kissing. Their gazes met, and they both laughed the way they used to do together when they were kids.

“Fuck, we’re ridiculous,” August replied.

“I’m never that way with anyone but you.” It was true. What was the point in trying to hide it? Clint wasn’t saying that meant anything more than it did. Things were still complicated, but August did make him feel and act in ways no one else did. “I want you in my bed this time.”

Clint turned for the stairs, and when he did, August pulled the towel free and dropped it to the floor. He smacked Clint’s ass, the two of them racing for Clint’s room like the world was ending and this was their last chance to have each other.

Clint led the way, but once they got there, he let August catch him. The chase was fun, but being captured was even better.

August pulled his shirt over his head, blessing Clint with the view of his broad, hairy chest. Clint was already getting hard, but seeing the way August looked at him, all that naked want in his eyes, made blood rush even quicker to his groin.

August said, “I feel like I’m twenty again. I haven’t been this excited about sex in a long time.”

Clint hooked his finger in the belt loop of August’s jeans, tugging him close. “Well, that’s a damn shame, but I have to admit, I’m glad you’re feeling it with me.”

“Me too.” August kissed him slowly now, like he had all the time in the world. They kissed the way they had on the couch when they were just lying there talking. August worked open his jeans between them, Clint helping him shove them down. Their mouths parted when Clint sat on the bed, dick standing tall and August between his legs.
