He lets out a final groan of satisfaction and withdraws his manhood from my mouth. It’s still stiff and leaves a sloppy trail of spit and cum from my lips as he pulls back.

“Wow,” I say simply.

“Yes.” He nods. “Wow.”

He snatches me into his arms and pulls me up with him into the chair where he was sitting while watching me try on all my different sets of lingerie for him. I curl up, and he cradles me with care, and it’s then that I realize that there is absolutely more than just words behind this man’s intentions. Something truly is going on with us.

The fuzzy feeling that’s been tingling in my chest all day is growing as he slowly caresses my hair.

There really is no question about it any longer. I just have to open my mouth to say it.

My heart is racing. I have an energetic feeling coursing through my whole body. It’s like anxiety but not.

You can do it, I tell myself.

I take a deep breath, but that’s when I hear Blake’s voice…

“I love you, Anna.”

In that moment, all time seems to freeze. I almost want to say jinx, but he spoke just before I was able to get the words out.

His fingers slide through my hair, caressing me with so much care that tears well up in my eyes. This time, I don’t even try to fight them back. I just let them fall.

“I love you too, Blake,” I whimper. “I love you too.”

Days go by with Anna by my side. My once dark and cold world begins to brighten.

Then weeks pass, and my criminal empire becomes less and less important to me. In fact, all that matters as time goes on is Anna. My angel.

I’ve assigned men to watch her when she’s at school, from a distance of course so she doesn’t have her life disrupted, and have taken care of her financially so all she has to do is focus on her classes.

She kept her job at the library but scaled back the hours and gave up her apartment so she could move in with me. She’s much happier now, and seeing her happy makes me happy. That’s something I never thought possible.

Never in my life did I think I would wake up and focus on another person’s happiness. But that’s where I am now ever since Anna came into my life.

She’s finishing up class right now and should be home soon, and I’ve just finished going over my financial holdings with my business manager. I’ve been doing my best to legitimize my money over the last few weeks and to set up ways of laundering it further so Anna and I will be set when I leave this life behind us.

It’s just not safe for her.

When I was risking my own life, I was fine with that. But to risk hers too—that’s just not acceptable.

And I know she’ll go right along with me because of how much she loves me, but I just can’t allow her to do that. I have to cash out now while I’m ahead, leave this city with her and make sure she’s safe. Because if anything ever happened to her, well, I’d never forgive myself.

But first, there’s something big I have to do.

I twist the little blue box around in my pants pocket, then take it out and look at it. Everything is set up in the back garden. She’s going to love it. I know that, but for some reason I’m actually nervous. I have no idea why. I honestly can’t remember the last time I was nervous. Just another emotion Anna has brought out in me that I completely forgot I had.

I pour myself a small glass of whiskey and down it quickly. It seems to help, and I tell myself that she’s going to love what I have prepared, that Anna loves me and there’s no way she’s going to say no either.

I hear the car pull up out front and take a deep breath. Here we go.

The door opens, and I greet Anna in the foyer.

“Hey, baby,” I ask, taking her bag from her. “Good day?”

“Better now.” She smiles, leaning in for our customary greet-and-kiss, which I give her, of course. Only today, I sweep her into my arms and carry her to the largest of the living rooms, which has been decked out with pink and red and yellow orchids, Anna’s favorites.

She gasps when she sees them leading to the French doors, which are open and leading to the garden, which has also been completely decorated with even more tulips, leading up to a handmade white gazebo surrounded by running water.

I set her down, and she immediately looks up at me. I can see by the look in her eyes that she knows what’s happening, but I take her hand and begin to lead her up the path to where everything is going to take place.
