Instead of looking down, I’m looking at her. The curve of her cheek, her full lips, her big blue eyes. She catches me staring. “What are you looking at?”
I tell her the truth. “I’m just happy to be here with you.”
Her whole face lights up, and I love to see it.
She points at the camera. “I’m going to go live. You ready?”
I nod. “I’m ready.”
She hits Go Live and then smiles into the camera. “Okay, everyone. We’re back! I’m going to give everyone a few minutes to get on, and then we’re going to get started.”
She starts reading comments. “Hey, Kara! I’m glad you’re back. Yes, I’m good.”
I can’t look away from Skyler. She’s smiling, reading the comments, and I relax a little because seeing her happy is all I want.
She stands next to me. “Okay, so I have my helper here. Everyone say hi to Zach. He’s going to roll out the dough.”
She instructs me how to do it, and I roll it out, careful and even.
She talks to her viewers as I roll the dough, and I’m really trying to concentrate on what I’m doing, but it’s hard when all I want to do is look at Skyler.
“Oh, good question.” She looks at me and winks. “Yes, Zach is my boyfriend.”
My chest puffs out. Fuck yeah, I am.
I lean in to look at the screen and see a few messages.
“OMG, he’s cute!”
“Zach and Skyler forever!”
I read the commenter’s name and address her out loud. “Yes, Rachel, I like the way you think. Zach and Skyler forever.”
Skyler bites her lip, trying to contain her smile.
She hip-checks me. “Okay, so I’m going to lay out the dough for the crust. Then we’ll fill it and then you can lay over the top crust. What do you think?”
I take a deep breath. “Let’s do it.”
She makes it look easy. She lays out the dough in the pie dish and works it in, then she pours in the apple filling. She points at me. “Okay, your turn.”
I pick up the flattened pie crust. I’m much more awkward about it, but I get it done. She claps her hands together. “Good job, Zach. That’s perfect.”
I couldn’t stop smiling if I tried, and I kiss her forehead. “It’s because I have a great teacher.”
She picks up an egg and cracks it into a small bowl. I stir it with the brush, and she nods her head. “Yes, just paint that right on the crust.”
I do as she’s instructed, and when I’m done, she picks up the pie. “Can you open the oven?”
I open it up, and she puts it in. “Okay, Cookie Crew, you put it in the oven at three hundred and seventy-five degrees for about an hour.”
She grabs my hand, and I step toward the camera. I stand behind her, loving the way she leans into me. “Okay, so this is going to bake, and I’m going to sign off. Thank you so much for being here. I’ll post some pictures for you tomorrow of the finished product.”
She waves at the camera and then squeezes my hand, and I wave too. “See you next time, Cookie Crew.”
She hits the end button, and when she stands up, she’s smiling at me. “You realize that video had more viewers than I’ve ever had, and I don’t think they were here for the baking.”
I cup her cheek. “They were here for you, honey. They just wanted to see you smiling.”
She looks at the oven and back at me. “So, uh, what are we going to do for an hour?”
I don’t dare get my hopes up. I know exactly what I want to do, but I’m not going to pressure her into anything. I suck in a breath. “What do you want to do?”
She loops her arms around my neck, and her breasts smash against my chest. “I have some ideas.”
I look into her eyes. “I want you, Skyler. There’s no doubt about that.” I press my hips toward her, and her eyes widen when she feels the hard bulge press into her belly. “But I can wait. I didn’t come here for that… I just need to be with you.”
She pats a hand against my chest. “I want to, Zach. I want to feel close to you.”
I don’t hesitate. I pick her up and hold her in my arms. Without a second thought, I carry her up the stairs to her bedroom. I pause in the doorway, my heart hammering. Excitement builds inside me until my body trembles with it. This time feels different. This feels like forever.
“What’s wrong? Why did you stop?”
My heart is pounding. There’s heat in my chest, and I feel as if I’m struggling to form words. “I love you, Skyler.”
She smiles. “Show me. Show me how you love me.”
She makes it sound like a challenge, and I walk into the room, kicking the door shut behind us. “With pleasure, baby.”
