“Yes, but we were able to board everything up and make our way on time. Thank you for leaving the plane for us. I wouldn’t want to miss this for anything in the world.”

“I would have postponed it,” I state while I adjust my cuffs.

“You have over two hundred guests here.”

“Maria’s happiness is of the utmost importance to me. It’s a good thing we’re doing this in the main resort, though.”

“I’m surprised—for as much money you have, you live in a simple, but modern large cabin.”

“Unless we’re having a dozen children, I don’t see the need for something more.”

“Ah, son. There you are,” my father says, coming up to us.

“Hello, I’m Mayor Marcus Turner. You must be the father of the bride I’ve heard so much about.”

“Mayor?”

“Yes, it’s ceremonial, really. This place runs smoothly, especially with our new chief of police. Maria has been fantastic.”

“Maria’s the chief of police? She didn’t tell us that.”

“Yes, well, she’s only going to stay in the position temporarily and doesn’t want anyone to get used to it.”

“That’s still incredible. Why only temporary?” His hackles are raised, but I don’t blame the man because she’s his little girl and he wants her happiness.

“Because she’s pregnant, Antonio,” Maria’s mother says, coming up to me with a grin.

“What?” That doesn’t calm him down for the exact same reason. I knocked up his baby girl.

“Well, that’s another reason, but as you can see, it’s not something I’d go through all the trouble to hide. We only found out two days ago, as it happens, and she’s not far along at all.” It’s the truth, although she may not be pregnant for the full nine months—but it will be close. According to what I learned from Hunter, it can be anywhere from seven to nine months, and they’ll still be healthy. The baby and mother determine how fast it happens, but that’s all we know.

“That’s what she said, but that means you two rushed this. Are you sure you’re not going to have second thoughts?”

“I’m positive as can be.”

“Are you sure she is, though?” Now he’s trying to push my buttons, but it won’t work one bit. I pretend to be off in space, pondering his question.

Babe, are you sure you want to marry me?

Of course—why would you ask that?

Your parents are asking me if I’m sure.

You better be. You can’t unmark me.

I don’t want to.

“I’m sure she doesn’t. Please enjoy your time. The wedding will be starting soon. You don’t want to miss your time with Maria before I whisk her away.” I look over, and there’s Jacob standing next to the door where Aria’s getting ready. I walk over to him and grab him by the shoulder. “Remember there are plenty of humans here. Get your ass under control. I know my sister’s going to look beautiful.”

“I know,” he mutters, glaring at every male in the room. I can’t say I blame the poor bastard.

“They can’t have her,” I remind him, which does calm him slightly.

“I know.” Jacob tugs on his collar, feeling like he’s suffocating, and I understand his energy because I’m nearly as bad as him, but I know that no one can take my woman away from me.

“You’re still jealous.”

“You know.”

“I do. Take it easy, and remember—it’s only another ten months.”

“It’s more like eleven.”

“I was trying to help you out. Stand strong. I’m letting you walk her down the aisle for a reason. You better behave.”

“I will. I promise.” I owe him, even if I don’t want to admit it. If it wasn’t for his actions, I wouldn’t have met my mate. I can’t even fathom the agony of not knowing her.

“It’s your turn to behave, Alpha,” he whispers. “Your eyes. She’s here, and yours.”

“I don’t know if that emotion will ever get better. I long for her and need her, and there’s not a single thing that can stop that feeling. I know you understand.”

“That I do. Thank you.”

“It’s time,” Max says. “Last chance to run.” I arch my brow, and he smiles like the asshole he is. He’s going to school much closer to home but still has the same feelings towards mating. Although he’s happy to be out of the heat, he’s instead attending the University of Oregon.

“To the altar. That’s the only place I’m running right now.”

“Fine. I’m just saying.” He nudges me, and then I walk up the aisle.

Max is my best man, and Daphne is Maria’s Matron of Honor. She managed to put the wedding together easily while nursing a newborn, and so far there isn’t a thing that’s not been perfect.

I stand there, waiting for my bride to come to me. My heart races as the music begins. I’m not worried, nor do I have cold feet like a traditional groom. She’s already mine. I’ve already made sure of that. Our bond is greater than a piece of paper. This is a soul contract. Her wolf and my wolf are one for the rest of our days. Still, as the doors open, the smile on my face can’t seem to go down. Luckily, I adjusted my cock to rest under my belt, and my tux jacket covers it or I’d give everyone a show.
