“Especially when we shared the same locker room.”

“Usually the people who complain the loudest have something to hide themselves. They’re beating themselves up on the inside, so they take it out on others.”

“You’re probably right,” he murmured. “I wish we were at the point where one’s sexuality wasn’t a big deal.”

“A lot of people believe that.”

“Not enough.”

“I won’t disagree. I wish everyone was accepting of others.” She quickly downed the contents of her mug and smiled. “Time to play?”

Hell yes. He liked this woman already.

Chapter Five

Hope placed the empty coffee mug in the sink. While their conversation had been great, that wasn’t why she had come to his cabin. No, she was there for physical, not mental, stimulation.

She hadn’t had sex in at least two months now, ever since she informed Darren she would be teaching yoga classes at Double D Ranch.

“You’re really willing to give me up for that little bit of money you’ll make from those pervs?”

The perv comment had really pissed her off, so she simply replied, “Yes,” and left it at that. She could’ve told him that she didn’t like where he stood on a lot of topics, or how he treated some people, or that their sex life had become mundane, but she didn’t need to insult him to make her feel better about her decision.

And that was what it was. A decision for her life. Not his.

Whenever they had sex, he also discouraged anything even remotely non-vanilla. Because of that, she’d been suppressing some of her desires in an attempt to keep things between them smooth.

She liked a variety. Darren didn’t.

Her ex-boyfriend also held the opinion that teaching yoga classes was a hobby, not a “real” job.

In the end, her relationship with Darren proved two weeks wasn’t nearly long enough to know someone before moving in together. Yes, they’d had their good moments, but in the end, their ideologies clashed too much for them to live in complete harmony. She had ignored it for a while, until there came a point she couldn’t anymore.

Getting hired by Double D Ranch had been the perfect excuse to end their relationship. She wished Darren well with whatever his future held. Unfortunately, she did not get that in return. He was the kind of man who relentlessly judged others but thought his own shit didn’t stink.

Now she was single again and free to do whatever she was in the mood for. And right now, she was in the mood to do the tall, handsome, former trooper that stood only a few feet away.

He was game. She was game. Obviously, it was time to play.

She spun around. “What are you into besides men?”

“Women,” he said, tongue in cheek.

“Obviously. Last time I checked, I am one. Other than that?”

“Satisfying sex.” He was purposely being obtuse.

“Well, look at that. So am I. What else? You need to narrow it down.”

He cocked an eyebrow. “Do I? Or should we just explore?”

“Do you have a safe word?”

“Do you?”

She smiled. “I do.”

Cam mirrored that smile. “So do I.”

Her smile spread. “I like the sound of that.”

“You probably won’t hear it.”

She also liked a challenge. “Don’t bet on it.”

“Damn,” he whispered. “What’s yours?”

“Shanti.”

His head twitched. “What’s that?”

“It means peace. What’s yours?”

“Oklahoma.”

She’d admit hers was unique, but his? “Have you been there?”

“No.”

Her brow furrowed. “Then why’d you pick it?”

After a slight hesitation, he finally answered. “Johnny Knoxville used it as his safe word in Jackass.”

“Jackass? I have no idea what that is.”

Cam chuckled. “Maybe it’s for the best.”

“Got it. As a former cop, I assumed you were either a Dom or leaned toward the more dominant side. Am I wrong?”

“I’m pretty flexible. It all depends on who I’m with. Do you prefer to be submissive?”

“No.”

He blinked. “No?”

Hope tipped her head to the side. “Did you expect me to say yes because I’m a woman?”

“No…I…No.” He groaned. “Yes. Sorry.” He lifted a let-me-explain finger. “But not because you’re a woman; because you seem to be more of a”—he waved a hand around—“free spirit. A gentle soul, if you will. Please take that as a compliment and not an insult.”

“Unlike you, who had no problem cuffing people during your career?”

“Just because I did it for my job, doesn’t mean I enjoy doing it in my down time.”

“Good to know.”

“But it also doesn’t mean I don’t like to do it in my down time.” He shot her a toothy grin. “If you want to be cuffed and stuffed, I’ll gladly do that without complaint.”

“And if you like to be cuffed and stuffed, I will gladly do that as well.” As well as plenty of other things.

“Okay, then. How about we move this conversation into the bedroom?” He held out a hand toward the only bedroom in the cabin.

“I figured tonight would be pretty tame. I’m starting to believe it’ll be the opposite.”
