Hands down, it was the best sex I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot. While I can think of a million reasons it never should have happened, I can’t bring myself to regret it just yet. Though knowing Raiden, I’m sure all he’ll have to do is open his mouth, and I’ll be clawing my eyes out for letting him touch me.
With work out of the way, I switch into vacation mode, relaxing on the sunlounger under the private hotel cabana, and as I soak up the hot European sun, I pull out my phone and call my best friend.
Milan answers on the first ring. “Holy shit, tell me you got him?”
“Of course I got him,” I say, a grin stretching across my face. Honestly, you’d think she’d have stopped doubting me by now. “Clean shot to the back of his head and not a witness in sight.”
“Shit. I don’t know how you do it. You’re like a ghost.”
My smile widens as she gives me the compliment of the year. “Why, thank you, though to be fair, it did take longer than anticipated. I would have liked to have got it done last night, but with that big party, there were too many witnesses.”
“Party?” she says as I hear her typing into her computer, most likely officially marking the contract complete so I can get paid. “What party?”
I let out a breath. “Girl. This party was insane, but that’s not even the interesting part. You know my new neighbor? Dude with the cock the size of an elephant trunk?”
“Yeah,” she says with a laugh. “I’m still waiting for a picture, by the way.”
I scoff. “I got something much better than a simple picture. You’ll never believe how my night went.”
“Ooooh, do spill.”
“Okay, so you know how Raiden is some kind of international sales rep?” I start, knowing she already knows this shit because all I’ve been able to do for the past two weeks is complain about the guy. “Well, the party last night was apparently a big deal for big businesses in Europe, so after shocking the absolute crap out of me and trying to accuse me of—”
“Wait. He was there? In Barcelona? The same guy who just happened to move in next door to you two weeks ago is now showing up in the same city, at the exact same party, while you’re across the globe working a job. You don’t think that’s suspicious at all?”
“Uhh . . . I mean, kinda. I suppose. If you think about it like that, but I’ve looked into him, and everything checks out. It’s just one over-the-top insane coincidence.”
“You know what I say about coincidences.”
I roll my eyes. “I know, I know, and most of the time, I would agree with you, but I’m a good judge of character. I’ve always trusted my gut, and Raiden is an over-qualified pain in my ass, but there’s nothing more to it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely.”
“I feel as though I should look into this guy.”
“You’re not going to find anything,” I tell her. “Trust me, I’ve spent every waking moment for the past two weeks trying to find just a scrap of dirt on him, and apart from angry women blasting him online for never calling them back, that’s about it.”
“Ahhh, a real modern-day knight in shining armor.”
I can’t help but laugh, because honestly, that’s probably exactly how he feels about himself. “I mean, I don’t know about that, but last night . . . shit. He might have earned that knighthood.”
“Wait. What?” Milan screeches. “You slept with him?”
A grin stretches wide across my face. “Unfortunately,” I say, remembering every single moment of it so damn clearly. Up against that elevator wall with my legs wrapped around him as he slammed that massive cock deep inside me. God, just the thought of it is making me hungry for more.
“I think I’ve skipped a few chapters,” she tells me. “I thought we hated him?”
“We do.”
“But you’re fucking him.”
“Big time,” I confirm. “And when I say big, I mean big. The guy is an absolute monster. I’ve never seen anything like it, and girl, he knows how to use it. He knows how to use everything. The tongue. The fingers. Just the way he moved. It was . . . shit. It was hands down the best night I’ve ever had. No man has ever made me come like that, or even had the stamina to keep up with me. But Raiden—” I blow out my cheeks, still utterly gobsmacked by my night.
“Girl, you’re going to get yourself in trouble.”
“I think I’m already there.”
“Fuck.”
I let out a sigh. She knows just as well as I do that in our world, we can’t have relationships. They’re too complicated. Letting someone into your life only to have to spend a lifetime lying to them about who you truly are. No matter how good you are at spinning little webs of lies, you’ll eventually get caught. And besides, what kind of life is that? Having a partner you can never be completely honest with, never show them the real you. It wouldn’t feel authentic. Not to mention, generally, people aren’t very accepting of murderers, no matter if it’s a professional hit or otherwise, and that’s not something I ever intend to disclose about myself. I protect me first. Always will.
