“I don’t want you to leave me.”

It’s like my heart finally swells. I feel bigger, fuller than I ever have before, though I think I might pass out from the stress. “You don’t?” I manage to say.

“Stay with me,” he says. “I can’t hold back anymore. I can’t keep trying to be strong, when I know I’m weak for you, Camille. God, I’m so fucking weak for you. I love you like I’ve never loved anyone before. Stay with me. Stay my wife. Don’t go.”

I throw myself at him and crush his lips with mine. It’s awkward and aggressive but it’s all I can do. I kiss him, kiss him, taste him, because I needed to hear that. Tears roll down my cheeks and he must know I’m crying, but he holds me tight and keeps kissing me, until we finally break apart. I’m grinning like an idiot.

“I love you too,” I say. “God, it took you long enough.”

He barks a laugh and kisses me again.

My husband. My lovely, lovely husband. Opening himself, just like I want to open myself.

“I’m guessing that means you want to stay?” he whispers.

“So long as you keep treating me like your wife every night.”

“I can do that.”

“Then you have a deal.”

He wipes my tears away and his fingers grip my ass tightly. “How about we start now? I’ll wear the ring. I’ll call you mine.”

“And I’ll be all yours.”

He takes my hand and leads me into our bedroom.

Chapter 60

Camille

“Please, Camille, let me take those,” Demetrios says, trying to grab the stack of dirty plates from my hands.

I sidestep him and head into the kitchen. “Just doing my job, but thank you for using my name,” I call back to him.

He sighs, grinning, and shakes his head.

I drop off the dishes, stick an order ticket in the line cook’s window, and head back out front. I refill a couple mugs and stand for a moment, surveying the diner.

It’s half filled with Greek soldiers and half filled with locals. The place has been bustling lately. I think it has something to do with Evander—somehow, word got out that his wife spends her time in this place, and everyone’s coming by to try to curry favor with the lord’s woman.

It’s kind of nice. But mostly annoying.

Toward the back, Alonzo’s sitting alone, reading the paper. He’s still my guard, though I don’t need him as much these days. Evander purged the last of the stubborn captains from the family over the winter, and now that spring is here again, things are completely calm.

Phel leans over him. They’re bantering back and forth about something. She rolls her eyes at him and taps her pen against her notebook. He’s glancing down at her tits, back up to her eyes, scowling the whole time. Those two act like they hate each other, but if they’re not fucking before the end of the summer, I’ll throw myself into the river.

“That man’s a total ass,” Phel says, joining me behind the counter. “Seriously, how do you put up with him?”

“I don’t know, I think he’s decent. Saved my life.”

“Eh, still a dick.” She shoots him a dirty look.

“God, the sexual tension between you two is almost embarrassing. Just suck his dick and get it over with.”

She glares at me too. “I’d rather suck Old Harry’s dick than get anywhere near Alonzo.”

“I heard that,” Old Harry says, a white-haired Greek guy in his seventies, one of our regulars. “And I am willing.”

“Shut up, Harry, you old pervert,” Phel snaps at him and he laughs along happily as his diner buddies give him a hard time.

“Aw, it’s cute, Phel. Reminds me of when I first got involved with Evander.”

She rolls her eyes. “Seriously, let it go. Are you out of here or what?”

I check the time and nod. “Looks like my shift’s over.”

“You’re lucky my dad loves you so much. I will note that he never lets me come in for a casual four hours.”

“And I will note that your diner is packed every day because of me.” I kiss her cheek and hug her. “Love you girl. Drinks tomorrow?”

“If you’re paying, I’m doing shots.”

“Wonderful.” I wave as I breeze past her. Alonzo moves to get up, but I wave him back down. “Evander’s here, I’m fine.”

He looks unhappy but obeys.

That’s how things are these days. Nobody’s worried when I go out into the alley. Nobody’s going to be there, not an angry Hector, not a pathetic ex-husband.

Only my Evander.

He’s leaning against the wall, waiting for me. His Maserati is parked illegally in front of a fire hydrant across the sidewalk. I march up to my big, beautiful husband, and lay a fat kiss on his luscious lips.

He purrs as he digs his fingers into my ass.

“Hello, wife. Nice shoes,” he says, grinning. “Have I told you lately how much I love that uniform? I swear, it’s getting shorter.”
