He was a Varik.

Epilogue

Ethan stopped on his walk up to Marcus’s house—well, their house—after their night out with Rafe. Yes, Marcus had made it very clear between the hunting lessons that it was their house now. And their money. And their pianos, though Ethan had no desire to learn how to play. He was content to listen to Marcus play.

They had a lot of very long discussions ahead of them about jobs and duties and how Ethan was not going to simply be a mooch for the rest of eternity. But that was the thing; they had plenty of time to discuss things and figure them out. Time stretched out in one long, unending ribbon unfurling out before them.

Instead of the thought being overwhelming and daunting, it was exhilarating. There was no need to feel like every decision was make or break. He could try learning how to paint, and after a hundred years, if he was bored with it, he could spend another hundred years learning how to be a sculptor or wood-carver or a fashion designer or a computer coder. There was finally enough time for everything.

But most of all, there was finally enough time for him and Marcus.

Speaking of, his man leaned against the tree behind Ethan and placed his hand on Ethan’s stomach. Rafe had taken them to a nightclub filled with humans. It was noisy and crowded, but the darkness allowed them to more easily conceal their feeding. All four brothers had taken time to show Ethan tricks for hunting, luring, and feeding. He hadn’t expected it to be such a bonding experience, but he definitely felt closer to Rafe, Bel, and Winter now.

That wasn’t to say that he wasn’t looking forward to hunting with Marcus alone. The hunting felt awkward and made him nervous, but the feeding was thrilling. Thrilling enough that Ethan might have dragged Marcus into a bathroom stall for a quick blowjob.…Well, once he learned how to retract his damn fangs.

So many things to learn.

It was a little frustrating, but Ethan took a deep breath and reminded himself that there was plenty of time.

The eastern sky was turning lighter now. The velvety black of night was starting to give way to a paler slate gray. There were the barest hints of orange and yellow. The sun was rising. They would have to go inside very soon, protected by the tinted glass and thick curtains.

“I’m sorry,” Marcus murmured.

“For?” Ethan asked, though he knew what Marcus was thinking.

“The price we have to pay. No more sunlight.”

Ethan turned his head to look at Marcus over his shoulder, his smile clear on his face. “If I have to choose between forever with you and never seeing the sun, it’s no contest.” Ethan raised his right hand and lifted his middle finger toward the horizon. “Fuck the sun. You win every time. No regrets. No hesitation.”

Marcus chuckled. “You’ll miss it.”

Ethan’s hand flopped back down to his side. “So I’ll miss it. Big deal. We adapt.” Ethan turned so that he was now facing Marcus. “You know what I won’t adapt to? Not having you.”

“I love you, Ethan Varik,” Marcus said, and Ethan couldn’t help preening at the name. He wasn’t sure if they’d ever do anything as formal as a wedding or even file paperwork. Did vampires have paperwork?

Fuck it.

Didn’t matter.

He belonged to Marcus. Marcus knew it. Ethan knew it. His brothers knew it. That was all that mattered.

“I love you, Marcus Varik.”

“How would you like to conclude your first night as a vampire?”

Ethan’s smile spread as he stepped into Marcus, sliding his arms up around his neck. “I was thinking we could conduct another experiment.”

“Do I need to call Bel for assistance?” Marcus teased.

Ethan gave a little shudder. “Definitely not.”

“Then what kind of experiment would you like to run?”

“A comparison. I already know what it’s like to have an orgasm with you as a human. Now I want to know what it’s like as a vampire. Is it different? The same?”

Marcus hummed as he bent down and pressed a kiss to Ethan’s jaw. “Those are some very important questions.”

“And it might take several tries.” Ethan tilted his head up, offering his neck to Marcus. “Need to collect lots of data.” Ethan finished the sentence on a groan as Marcus nipped at his neck before moving to his earlobe.

“I am at your service…for the rest of our lives.”

Between their plans to take down the Ministry, establish new alliances, and the centuries of love they had ahead of them, Ethan was ready.

Grabbing Marcus’s hand, he started dragging his lover toward the house. Marcus’s low chuckle danced on the late-summer breeze.

Fuck the sun. He had Marcus.
