Sensing something, he slows the kiss and pulls away. “Needed that, Sweets. Needed to feel you and know I’ve got you.”

I drop my head as embarrassment is definitely taking over. He cups my chin once again lifting my face to his, “What is it?”

“I feel disgusting.” There is no shame in my statement, just truth. Too many days without my usual routine, products, or personal space, it’s all catching up to me now. Add in the hot biker that I want to find me sexy, this is a recipe for disaster right this moment. How do I tell him, I promise I clean up nice? “Haven’t had a proper shower since you left me.”

Momma always said the truth is always easier than a lie. She is not wrong.

“Noted. Just so you know, I think you’re beautiful, but I’m sure a hot bath would be nice.” He looks over his shoulder at a man that looks like he is mad at the world. “Dove, book our room for tonight.” Then he turns back to me. “Sweets, can you crawl to that sleeping area back there Dove can get up in here and we can begin the trip home.”

Home.

Never thought about being away from it. I nod slightly as I begin to make my way to the sleeper area. A shiver runs through my body thinking about the last few days.

“Clay?” I say his name and find it really does suit him.

“Yeah, sweets?”

My insecurities are climbing. I have something nagging inside of me, but feel a bit like a fool to say it. Here goes nothing. “Can we not stay in Texas tonight? I’m not sure how far it is to get to a border somewhere, but my visit here hasn’t been one I want to think on too much. If we could be anywhere but here, I would be grateful.”

“Gonna take a few hours to get out of the state. You gonna be okay for that kind of ride?”

“If it means I get out of this place, you betcha.”

He gives me a half-smile, “then my answer is anything for you, sweets. Anytime.”

I give a nod and find myself a new spot as he climbs down from the rig and comes around to get in the driver’s seat. Before he gets in the rig, another man climbs up into the seat I just occupied tossing my bag back into the sleeper area with me. Well, I’m thankful someone thought of my stuff, even though I didn’t pack nearly enough or what I wanted since I pushed my luck when the other man invaded my home. This man in the truck though, he’s man with a sinister glare and a vibe that doesn’t screams I don’t want to fuck around and find out. If he had been the man to take me I don’t think there would have been a rescue. He gives off this air of brutal violence in a way I’ve never experienced before.

My life is good. I have things exactly how I want them. Something tells me this man beside me could very easily make someone’s life not good and quickly. And I don’t think he would have any guilt or lose any sleep over it.

Clay climbs in taking my attention back to him. His features are soft to the hard of the man beside him. Our eyes lock and an ease washes over me. I’m safe with him. Should I feel this way? Probably not. My gut, though, says I’m safe and I’ve always trusted my instincts.

“Do I make you nervous?” the man with a solid resting bitch face asks.

I swallow, “Yeah.”

Both men start laughing before angry man turns serious. “Good, you should be.” Well, he might like this intimidation bullshit, but for me it pisses me right the fuck off.

I jerk my head back in response. “Okay, look here, I get you don’t know me and I sure as hell don’t know you. But I’ve had the worst week of my life and I really don’t have the energy for you to fuck with my head. Y’all got me in this shit. I don’t know what you’re into and I don’t care. I want to go home and back to my life.”

Angry man narrows his eyes at me. “Baby girl, I didn’t get you into shit. You got tied up in this the minute you got tangled in the sheets with a Hellion. I know my brother didn’t force you into shit. The minute you gave consent, you put yourself here.”

Clay shoves the man in the passenger seat. “Cut the shit, Dove. She’s been through Hell. Don’t test me.”

They have some silent stare down before the man Clay calls Dove let out a laugh. “Well, I’ll be damned, you meant that shit.”

Clay cocks his head to the side, “I’ve never said anything I didn’t mean, motherfucker. Why would this be different?”
